Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 508

After dinner, they settled into their usual spot in the living room for a chat.

"Did anything interesting happen at the office today?"

Stella intentionally brought up his day, giving him a clear opening to come clean.

She didn't want to rely solely on that woman's one-sided claims and risk misunderstanding him.

Julius froze for a split second. "Nothing out of the ordinary. Jason had already handled all the critical issues, and Sean is a brilliant Chief Assistant. They didn't leave any messes for me to clean up."

Stella's heart plummeted.

She had handed him the perfect opportunity, and he still chose to lie to her?

Was he planning to keep that woman hidden as a permanent mistress?

The very thought made her skin crawl. Disgusting.

"Alright. I'm going upstairs to shower." Since he was dead set on hiding his affair, there was no point in pushing the conversation.

Julius frowned as he watched her walk up the stairs.

Why was she heading up so early?

They had barely finished eating.

And her pointed question about the office... Did she find out Faye Langley had visited him today?

That was impossible. No one had tipped him off about Stella coming by, and she certainly hadn't walked into his office.

He shook his head, convincing himself he was just being paranoid.

He needed to resolve the Faye situation immediately. Keeping Stella entirely in the dark was the only way to protect her from this headache. If she found out, she would be furious.

The mere thought of Faye Langley gave him a migraine. If he didn't handle this flawlessly, the fallout would be catastrophic.

He could not lose Stella. She could never, ever know about Faye!

Taking a deep breath, he stood up and headed upstairs.
