Kyson chuckled, shaking his head. "No wonder you dropped off the map. I guess taking down an international crime ring qualifies as a 'good deed.'"
He figured someone in North Myanor must have seriously pissed her off, or she had a damn good reason to go.
This was the Stella he knew—fiercely loyal, completely intolerant of injustice, and vindictive as hell.
If anyone dared to cross her, she'd make sure they paid it back with interest, and usually a pound of flesh, too.
He had learned that the hard way. Early on, he had simply mocked her for biting off more than she could chew, and she had revenged him into the ground for it.
Back then, he was the untouchable Demon King of Bay City. No one dared mess with him, but Stella? She didn't give a damn.
Their first encounter had been at a high-end resort. He and his friends were partying at the hotel bar.
He saw a gorgeous girl and decided to buy her a few rounds, figuring he could get her drunk and take her back to his room.
Instead, she turned out to be an absolute tank. Drink after drink, she didn't even flinch, while he ended up blackout drunk. In his inebriated stupor, he had the nerve to accuse her of cheating.
The second time they crossed paths, she was playing pool with a friend. Still nursing a bruised ego from the drinking contest, he challenged her to a game.
What was the edgy, tough-guy line he'd thrown at her again?
Right. He had said, "You're out of your league. If you can actually beat me, my life is yours to do with as you please!"
She had raised an eyebrow. "Really? Don't write checks your ego can't cash. Next thing I know, you'll be accusing me of hustling you again. I haven't forgotten the bar incident. You seem like a sore loser."
He had been livid. Nobody ever publicly humiliated Kyson Sterling like that!
"I mean every word! If I lose, I'm entirely at your mercy. Whatever you say goes, no questions asked!"
