Stella was now absolutely certain that Roxanne was deliberately looking for a fight.
But why?
Was someone else putting her up to this, using her as a pawn?
Or was she yet another one of Julius's obsessed admirers?
But they were technically cousins!
Or did she just blindly hate her for no reason?
Stella was positive she had never met or even heard of Roxanne before today. Why target her?
"Julius, it looks like Roxanne is picking on Stella. Aren't you going to go defend her?"
Jason had been chatting with some of their cousins, but he always kept one eye on his grandmother's side of the room.
Seeing Roxanne lingering over there and clearly giving his sister-in-law a hard time, he quickly nudged his brother.
Julius was in the middle of discussing medical equipment imports with Uncle Abel. Hearing Jason's warning, he immediately looked over at his wife.
Sure enough, there was a situation unfolding.
"Excuse me for a moment, Uncle Abel."
He strode purposefully toward his grandmother.
Jason hurried after him, eager to see what kind of drama Roxanne was trying to stir up.
Everyone's attention was now drawn to Nadine's area, mostly because Roxanne wasn't exactly keeping her voice down.
The moment Julius walked up, he caught the tail end of Roxanne’s ridiculous speech.
He wrapped an arm firmly around Stella’s waist and said in a glacial tone, "Roxanne, what my wife gets my grandmother is none of your business. If you don't know how to speak properly, keep your mouth shut. No one is forcing you to talk."
Who the hell did Roxanne think she was, disrespecting his wife right in front of him?
Julius knew Stella was acting, but Nadine certainly didn't. Seeing her precious granddaughter-in-law looking so distressed instantly broke her heart.
"Oh, Stella, don't be sad. You are the granddaughter-in-law I prayed to the heavens for. You are the treasure of our family, and you haven't embarrassed us at all. I refuse to accept her gift."
Jason couldn't hold back his anger either. "Roxanne, who do you think you are, standing here spouting garbage?
So what if Stella is from a small town? Did she eat your food or spend your money? Go back three generations and we all came from the dirt!
You think you're so superior, don't you? You think you're better than everyone else? From what I heard, your college graduation got delayed.
You must have spent all your time failing classes instead of studying. No wonder you lack basic manners. You can't even speak like a decent human being."
If there were things Julius couldn't say as the head of the family, Jason had no problem saying them. Everyone knew he had a lethal tongue, and no one was allowed to bully his family.
Besides, if Sabrina found out Stella got bullied at Grandma's birthday and he stood by and did nothing, she would absolutely murder him.
