Alistair waved a hand. "No need to rush. We still have twenty days. Let's call Gabriel and Fenton back, and we can brainstorm together."
"Exactly, we'll brainstorm. Worst case scenario, Silas, don't you have a son? Make him figure something out."
"Don't mention that little punk. Refused to inherit my legacy and insisted on becoming some hacker instead. It's infuriating!"
Magnus offered a soothing tone. "Don't say that. He's doing critical work for the country; it's an honorable path. Besides, hasn't Stella already inherited your legacy?"
"True. Thank God for Little Star." Mentioning his star pupil immediately brought a proud grin back to Silas's face.
The three old men continued bickering and chatting until, forty minutes later, Stella's voice boomed from the dining room. "Dinner's ready!"
With both stoves going at once, she had worked quickly. Five dishes and a soup were laid out, flawless in color, aroma, and taste.
Silas nudged Alistair. "The girl's done cooking. Go fetch the good stuff."
"Alright, I'll go. But nobody takes a bite until I get back, or you won't get a single drop. It'll just be me and the kid drinking while you two drool."
Silas scoffed. "Please. If you don't pour me a glass, I'll just take it. It's not like you can beat me in a fight."
Alistair sneered right back. "So what if I can't beat you? Little Star won't just stand by and watch you hit me. I bet you can't even take her in a fight anymore, can you?"
Magnus, ever the peacemaker, stepped in. "Enough, both of you. I'll stand guard. Nobody eats early. If anyone sneaks a bite, I'll throw mud in the food. Happy?"
"Hmph!"
"Hmph!"
The two stubborn men, pushing a combined age of two hundred, snorted in unison and stomped off in opposite directions.
Stella laid out all the details of the upcoming event.
"My old bones won't make the trip. I'll just watch your spectacular performance on the live stream. I have absolute faith you'll bring that Ametrine Herb back."
His disciple had surpassed him long ago. There was zero reason for him to drag himself all that way.
"Damn right. I'll bring it back, and I'll figure out how to cultivate more of it."
"Little Star," Silas interjected, his tone deadly serious. "If those Rubinia people try anything funny, just take them out quietly. I'll have your elusive senior brother scrub the digital trail. They'll never trace it back to you."
Stella smiled confidently. "Silas, have some faith in me. I've mastered all your teachings.
You think I can't handle some nobody from Rubinia Country? Relax. I've got them completely under my thumb. Did you see the video I sent you last time? I didn't let you down, did I?"
