"Grandpa, I would never lie to you. I'm Little Star, your granddaughter. My mother was Clara Todd. She was your daughter. Do you remember?"
She absolutely had to convince him to come back. If he refused, she'd be forced to stay here and oversee his treatment until his memory returned.
Memory recovery was incredibly unpredictable. It could take years, or simply being around familiar people and objects could trigger an instant breakthrough.
All of her mother's belongings were back in the capital. Seeing them might be the exact trigger he needed.
Staying in Cloudcroft City indefinitely wasn't an option.
"Clara Todd? Never heard of her. I'm not going with you." Dewey shook his head adamantly. The name meant absolutely nothing to him.
"Grandpa, look at me! Every time you visited the Hawthorne family to see me and mom, you always brought me toys! I'm all grown up now, Grandpa. Frederick Hawthorne and his family can't bully me anymore."
She desperately tried to spark a memory, but his expression remained entirely blank.
"I don't remember. I really don't know who you are. Just go home, kid. I'm staying here."
"Grandpa..." Stella's voice broke, tears pooling in her eyes again.
Seeing her on the verge of crying, Dewey panicked. "Kid, please don't cry."
Every time she cried, that weird, painful twisting feeling in his chest came back.
Realizing no amount of talking would convince him, Stella acted purely on instinct. In a flash, she pulled out a syringe and administered a quick sedative, knocking him out cold so she could bring him back to the hotel.
"Bruno, get me a car to the Joya Hotel. I'm taking my grandfather. I assume you don't have a problem with that?"
Bruno enthusiastically shook his head. "No, no, not at all! Why would I stop you? Take him! I'll have a car pulled around immediately!"
