Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 651

The four of them tilted their heads, staring up into the canopy.

"Aren't these just normal trees? I don't see anything special about them."

"Looking up is making me dizzy."

"Yeah, the whole world feels like it's spinning."

Julius spoke up. "I think you're all looking too high. Focus on the middle section of the trunks. I'm starting to see a pattern. Stella, the trick is hidden in the branches halfway up, isn't it?"

Stella smiled in approval. "Spoken like a true boss. You've got a sharp eye."

Julius's mood instantly lifted. "Thanks for the compliment, darling."

Stella pointed toward the surrounding woods. "Look at the trees circling us. Some of those branches jutting out from the middle are shaped differently. The core of the array is right there. If we just break those out-of-place branches, the entire tactical illusion will collapse. Whoever is hiding in the shadows will be completely exposed. The moment he steps out, our men on the perimeter will grab him."

Without missing a beat, Julius issued the command. "Perfect. What are you waiting for? Get to work."

"Yes, Boss!" the three men chorused.

Julius gently guided Stella over to a large rock and had her sit down. "Darling, let us guys handle the grunt work of climbing trees. You just sit back and direct us."

"Alright, let's see what you've got."

She was more than happy to let them do the heavy lifting.

But it quickly became apparent that Marsh and the others had vastly overestimated their abilities. Shooting and hand-to-hand combat? Sure. But climbing trees?

Ugh.

Stella couldn't help but shake her head and sigh as she watched the four grown men struggling with hilariously awkward climbing forms. Even the fifty-something-year-old men in her rural hometown could scramble up faster than this.
