Though her granddaughter-in-law looked delicate and refined, Nadine knew she was a woman of immense capability and strong will.
One only had to remember how Stella had saved her from Wade last year, sending that scumbag flying with a single kick, to know she was not someone to be trifled with.
She was truly formidable!
"Well, Grandma, I'd better get going. See you later!"
"Alright, drive safe."
Nadine chuckled warmly as she watched Stella leave, then turned to Lisa. "Come, let's go inside. I need to light some incense for my old man and tell him the good news."
...
Stella took the wheel of the plush luxury van to pick up her mentors.
She had politely declined Nadine's suggestion to take a driver. She wanted to make the drive herself.
She had texted the mentors the night before to confirm the pickup, and even Gabriel and Fenton had returned from their travels specifically to attend the wedding.
"Haha! Look, our Little Star is here to pick us up!"
The five older men had been waiting at the intersection long before she arrived. As the sleek van pulled up, Gabriel beamed with joy.
"Our Little Star is all grown up and getting married. It's hard to let her go."
"I know. She was only ten when she first came up the mountain. Eleven years passed in the blink of an eye, and now she's a beautiful young woman."
"I still remember when she first arrived, crying every day for her mother."
The men chatted warmly as the van slowed to a halt.
Stella parked, stepped out, and slid the rear door open, gently helping her grandfather out. "Look who I brought, everyone."
"Well, I'll be! If it isn't old Dewey! Long time no see."
"Dewey, where have you been hiding? Little Star has been turning the world upside down looking for you."
