Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 657

No one moved to intervene. They simply stood watch as Dewey wrestled with the agonizing rush of returning memories.

After what felt like an eternity, the storm in his mind finally subsided. The pain faded, and he slowly pushed himself up to a stand.

He looked at Alistair, then Silas, and the rest of the mentors, a familiar spark returning to his eyes. He slapped his forehead. "You old fossils. How did you all get so ancient?"

"Oh, like you're a spring chicken? Look at your hair, it's completely white! It's been ten years, of course we've aged!"

"You stubborn old mule, did you remember everything? Little Star said you lost your memory."

"Dewey, Little Star never stopped looking for you. For years, she dragged me all over the map just trying to track you down."

Dewey raised a hand to silence the barrage of chatter, turning his gaze to Stella.

"Star... Grandpa remembers everything now. I'm so sorry I didn't come back for you sooner. It's all my fault."

Stella's eyes welled with tears. He finally remembered her.

Bringing him back to familiar faces and places had truly worked.

"Don't cry, Star. Grandpa was wrong. I swear I'll never forget you again."

His Little Star was all grown up. She was no longer the heartbroken little girl clutching a doll and crying for her mother.

Stella wiped her eyes, her voice trembling. "It's not your fault, Grandpa. You were hurt. You lost your memory."

She knew he must have endured unimaginable horrors during those missing years, things that had driven his mind to completely shut down.

"Alright, alright, let's take this inside," Magnus interjected, playing the peacemaker. "The sun is beating down out here, and it's giving me a headache."

"Yes, let's go inside," they agreed.

The group made their way into the large villa.
