Frederick nudged Miranda to present the gifts to the Matriarch.
"Madam, we brought these gifts specifically for you. Please, accept them."
Nadine replied coldly, "State your business. You can keep the gifts."
Awkwardly, Frederick pulled his hands back. "Madam, if Stella isn't living here, where is she staying? When she came to visit with Julius the other day, she never mentioned moving out."
"Naturally, she is living in the estate my grandson bought for her. He found out she wasn't even given her own bedroom in her father's house, so he bought her a massive villa. The newlyweds have already moved in."
Miranda immediately jumped in, "Madam, that is completely untrue! Stella was simply away for a bit, so her younger sister borrowed her room for a few nights. Her bedroom is entirely cleaned and prepped for her now."
As she spoke, she covertly pinched her daughter's arm.
Chloe chimed in right on cue, "It's an honor to meet you, Madam. I'm Chloe. I only slept in my sister's room because my bedroom had a terrible cockroach problem.
We were having it exterminated, and right at that moment, my sister came home. When she saw me upstairs, it caused a massive misunderstanding. Originally, I was the one who was supposed to marry your grandson for the warding-off-death marriage.
But my sister had just come back from the countryside, and she kept crying to my dad about how much she hated living with us. She begged to take my place! I am the bride the Blackwood family actually wanted."
That massive villa should have been hers! Once she fixed this horrible mistake and took back her rightful marriage, she was going to throw Stella right out onto the street!
Standing behind the Matriarch, Larry watched the stepdaughter's performance in disgust. What a shameless liar, completely twisting the truth!
Nadine's expression darkened noticeably. "So what exactly is your goal here today?"
Stella is the only granddaughter-in-law I acknowledge. And I strongly suggest you refrain from insulting my grandson's wife in my presence ever again. Insulting her is an insult to the Blackwood family, and we do not take disrespect lightly. Larry, show them out!"
Larry stepped forward smoothly. "Yes, Madam."
He extended an arm toward the door. "This way, please."
Frederick had fought tooth and nail to get inside, and he refused to leave empty-handed. Ignoring the command to stand, he brazenly pushed his luck.
"Madam, if Mr. Blackwood prefers Stella, then we won't force the issue. But surely you must return the wedding fund Larry initially took back from us? We can't just give away a daughter for free, can we?"
Nadine's disgust for Frederick hit an all-time high. She let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "That money has already been given entirely to Stella as her dowry.
