A sharp whistle pierced the air, and the two wolfhounds immediately took a step back out of the elevator. However, they didn't leave. They sat right outside, tongues lolling, staring at Chloe with predatory eyes.
Chloe sat frozen in terror, locked in a standoff with the beasts. After a long moment of silence, the dogs still hadn't moved, and there was no sound from the intercom.
She screamed, "Damn it, make them leave right now, or I'm not saying a word!"
"It seems you truly want to be their dinner tonight. In that case, I have nothing more to say. Let's leave it at that."
The moment the bodyguard finished speaking, the whistle blew again.
Hearing the command, the two hounds stood up, took deliberate steps toward the open elevator doors, and began to growl viciously at her.
Chloe could literally smell the foul stench radiating off them.
They were massive, and when one reared up, it was taller than her. It was absolutely horrifying!
Her sanity completely fractured. Sobbing and shrieking, she begged, "No! Go away! Help! I'll tell you! I'll tell you everything, I swear! Please just make them leave!"
The whistle blew once more, and the hounds reluctantly backed away, their growls subsiding.
"Ms. Hawthorne, this is your final chance. I highly suggest you don't play games. They are running out of patience. Next time, I might not be able to control them. You better think very carefully before you speak!"
Inside the elevator, Chloe waved her hands frantically. "I won't! I won't play games! I'll talk, I'll talk!"
The bodyguard's harsh voice cut through the speaker. "Speak!"
Chloe flinched violently. This time, she was completely broken. "Yes, I'll say it. Stella has been trying to get her mother's ashes back. My dad put the urn in the doghouse in our backyard."
