Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 93

It was exactly these swirling thoughts that stopped Stella from causing a bigger scene at the Hawthorne house.

Right now, she had to figure out whether Frederick knew the box was full of fake ashes.

If he didn't know, then he deserved to die for disrespecting her mother like that.

If he did know, she would have to find a way to extract the whereabouts of the real ashes from him.

Once everything was brought to light, she absolutely would not let Frederick and his new family off the hook.

Stella issued a voice command. "Call Julius Blackwood."

"Right away," the car's AI responded, and the Bluetooth dialed the number, bringing up Julius's name on the dashboard screen.

At that moment, Julius was in the middle of a high-level executive meeting. His phone buzzed on the mahogany table. Glancing down, he saw it was Stella.

He raised a hand. "Meeting paused." And picked up the phone.

The executives around the table were stunned into silence.

Just last week, the sales manager's phone had gone off during a meeting, and Julius had exiled him to do grueling field research for three straight days.

Three days ago, the planning director's demanding wife had called. He had quietly answered it. Julius hadn't punished him on the spot, but Sean Cahill had later informed him that his monthly bonus was gone.

So, whenever Mr. Blackwood held a meeting, everyone instinctively set their devices to silent.

Nobody expected the boss himself to answer a call.

Normally, he never took calls during meetings. Even for crucial business matters, Sean handled them.

Who exactly was on the other end of the line?

Who had the power to make Mr. Blackwood answer a call mid-meeting?

Julius stepped out of the boardroom to take the call.
