Chapter 138
Elena’s POV
“Your daughter?” Natasha scoffed, taking a step back. “That’s impossible, Samson. I would have remembered if I gave birth to a second child.”
“I never said you were her mother.” Samson shot his wife a look. “And no, I didn’t cheat on you, either. So don’t go there, Natasha.”
Natasha snapped her mouth shut at that.
“I wonder if that’s why the blood transfusions healed you so quickly,” Jayne mused, tapping her chin. “The blood bond you and Tyler may share could be strong indeed…”
Natasha looked like she was going to pass out when Jayne said that.
Before I could react-I was still too stunned to speak-Samson turned to me again. “Elena, what did you say your mother’s name was?”
I frowned. This all felt like a fever dream, but I managed to respond in a small voice, “Margaret. Margaret Fay was her maiden name.”
The moment I said that name, Samson’s face dropped. He looked like he’d seen a ghost-or rather, like I had just spoken the name of one.
“Margaret Fay…” He stared at the ground for a long moment, eyes wide with surprise. I looked up at Tyler again, but he didn’t notice me. He was too busy staring at his father in shock.
Finally, Samson lifted his head again. “Margaret Fay was my fated mate,” he whispered.
I couldn’t believe it. My mother never mentioned a fated mate—she only ever loved my stepfather, and rarely mentioned my biological father. I never knew anything about a fated mate.
“Are you… certain?” I whispered. I almost wished he wasn’t, for some reason; maybe because it would be too much for my heart to handle if I found out that the people who had taken me in like their own were my biological family. That the reason why Samson and Tyler and I felt such a connection to each other was because we were truly related.
But the more I thought about it, it only made more and more sense. I thought about how Tyler had found me in the forest, broken and alone, and his first instinct had been to take me here. I thought about how he and his father had immediately felt a connection to me and even moved me into their private residence despite not knowing me.
I thought about how I had mindlinked Tyler at the Alpha Ball… And how, earlier today, it had almost seemed as if I had mindlinked Samson, as well.
I recalled the strange sense of oneness I’d felt with Samson in those moments when he had come to my rescue, and how, in that brief second of consciousness before I had slipped away, I could have sworn that we had a familial bond.
And now… this.

Samson nodded, almost as if reading the thoughts in my mind. Maybe he had. Maybe I had unknowingly mindlinked them to all of him just now.
“I’m certain it was her,” Samson said. “I met your mother when I was in my twenties-our bond snapped into place the moment we locked eyes. It was…” His face softened, and a ghost of a smile seemed to tug at his lips. “ It was magical. Unlike anything I’ve felt before.”
Natasha shifted uncomfortably beside Samson, and he cleared his throat, composing himself. The dreamy look in his eyes was quickly masked with practicality.
“We only slept together once,” he said. “The very night we met. By the next morning, she was gone; and I found out that she chose another man. Jack was his name.”
“That’s my stepfather,” I breathed.
