Harrison set a steaming cup of coffee in front of me. It was rich and velvety, and had a slight froth to it that immediately made me want to know his coffee-making secrets.

“Is Nightshade like that for you?” he asked, sitting across from me.

I hesitated. Of course it was. Or at least, it usually was. Even when Natasha and her cronies were being a pain, I always loved going home. But after last night…

“It gets complicated when you’re sharing a home with other people,” I finally said vaguely.

“I see.” Harrison nodded. “That’s why I prefer to live alone. Ginger snap?”

He held out a plate of ginger snap cookies that I hadn’t even seen him prepare. I took one and munched on it, watching while he stood and disappeared into the hallway. “I take it you came about the Luna’s Bane,” he called.

“Yeah.”

I heard some shuffling of books. Harrison cursed a few times. Then, he returned with a stack of journals in his hands. He plopped them down in front of me, sending a plume of dust flying up into my face.

“These are all of my writings on the subject. Feel free to take whatever you like.”

My brows lifted. I picked up one of the journals and opened it; the page was completely packed full of tiny, cursive writing. Every page was like that, with diagrams and black and white photographs scattered throughout.

“Wow. You really are an expert on the matter,” I said.

Harrison puffed his chest out like he was quite proud of himself. “There’s still much to learn, of course. But I learn more every day.”

“Such as your failed experiment just now?” I tilted my head.

Harrison beamed and stood. “Yes, actually. Would you like to see?”

I grinned. “I would be honored.”

I followed him further into the network of book towers, eventually emerging into what appeared to have once been a drawing room.
