Kade thrust me into the study so hard that I nearly fell. I caught myself against the armchair by the fireplace and whirled around, lip curling to reveal partially extended fangs, and grabbed my knife from my belt.
“Touch me again, and you’ll lose an eye,” I snarled with a confidence that I didn’t know I had.
Kade looked completely unfazed. He simply locked the door behind him and turned to me with his arms folded across his chest.
“You can certainly try,” he said with unnerving calmness. “But it won’t end well for you. So why don’t you make this easier on everyone and just tell me why you’ve come here?”
My hand trembled faintly as I pointed the knife at him. We both knew he was right. I was still no match for him, and I was all alone in enemy territory. Kade could have me surrounded by loyal warriors in a split second. Dead in twice that.

As Kade spoke, he lifted his hand, pinching a silver strand of my hair between his fingers. I grit my teeth and smacked his hand away.
“I’m not who you think I am.”
“No? Then why do we share a mate bond? Why are you here, trying to kidnap Samantha’s daughter? Unless Serena and Samantha had a secret third sister I didn’t know about, it seems a little telling, don’t you think?”
My jaw tightened so hard I thought my teeth might crack.
“I wasn’t coming to kidnap your daughter.”
“Then what were you doing here?”
“Curiosity,”
“Curiosity.” Kade tilted his head in that way of his that made him look too much like an animal for comfort. “You walked into my pack, potentially sacrificing yourself, knowing that I was planning on starting a war over you, because of curiosity.”
I opened my mouth to respond, but no words would come out. Because Kade had suddenly grabbed my cloak and
