Chapter 6
Smiling, Louisa continued, “I was actually thinking the same thing. I worked way too hard to get into college, so it’d be a total waste not to go back now.”
Both Timothy and Jasper looked surprised.
Jasper’s gaze lingered on her smile, bright as the sun and burning straight through his heart. If she was willing to return to college, did that mean she was finally willing to accept him?
Timothy beamed and ruffled her hair with relief brimming in his eyes. “Really? I knew you were a smart kid who’d eventually come around. I’ve spoken to your lecturers, so you can
return to college tomorrow.”
She nodded. “I must study hard and strive to be the best version of myself, so I can be worthy of Jasper.”
She looked across the table at Jasper and smiled sweetly at him. The sharp lines of his cold face
seemed to soften for a moment.
“That’s great!” Timothy nodded hard in immense satisfaction. He’d always hoped to see the two of them get along, but Louisa had stubbornly refused. Now, one of his wishes was finally coming true.
After breakfast, Timothy left for work.
Jasper turned to her and said, “I’m heading to the office. Will you be alright on your own?”
She thought about being left alone at home after they left and pouted slightly. As her gaze flicked sideways, an idea came to her mind. “Why don’t I go with you? I don’t have anything to do at home anyway.”
Jasper, who was halfway through adjusting his tile, clenched his fingers slightly at her words. His gaze deepened. In the past, she would never have said such a thing. Back then, she avoided him at all costs, so there was no way she’d ever volunteer to visit his company.
“What’s wrong? Is that not okay with you? Or are you having a secret love affair at the office?” she teased as she walked over, looping her arm through his.
“No. Let’s go.”
Ten minutes later, Louisa and Jasper arrived at Emperos Group. The towering building stood at the heart of the city as a true landmark.
They took the elevator straight to the CEO’s office. Shortly after they entered, a female

secretary, Judy Callahan, walked in.
“Mr. Hayes.” She set the coffee on the desk and bent over to smile at him.
Louisa was settling on the couch with a book she hadn’t had the chance to open when she caught the scene. Judy wore a low-cut outfit, so anyone could imagine how captivating the
view must be when she bent over.
Jasper’s attention never left the computer screen. He didn’t even bother to glance her way, Louisa couldn’t help but tighten her fingers around the book.
After Judy left, she casually commented, “Your secretary’s pretty.”
“Not as pretty as you,” Jasper replied without hesitation.
“At least you’re smart with your responses.” She snorted, hugged her book, and began reading on the couch. The last trace of irritation vanished instantly.
By afternoon, though, she was getting rather bored. Jasper had a meeting to attend, so he wasn’t in the office. She set the book aside and wandered downstairs.
but
The outdoor area of the company was beautifully landscaped, with a garden full of rare, expensive roses. A cluster of blue roses caught her eye, and she couldn’t resist reaching out to pluck one.
Just then, a sharp voice sounded beside her. “Who gave you permission to pick that?”
Frowning, Louisa turned and noticed that it was judy from earlier this morning.
When Judy saw Louisa, she immediately recognized the latter as the woman from Jasper’s office this morning. It got her wondering what Louisa’s relationship with Jasper was.
“Do you have any idea how valuable these flowers are? Can you even afford to pay for the one you plucked?” She sneered and reached out to snatch the rose back, then yelped as a thorn pricked her finger.
She shrieked, clutching her finger in pain.
“What’s going on?” A deep, cool voice came from behind them.
When Judy turned around and saw Jasper, her eyes lit up before she pitifully complained, “Mr. Hayes, I was just warning her not to pick the roses, but she pricked me with a thorn. It hurts so much.”
Louisa almost rolled her eyes at the act. So, she mimicked the same wounded look and pitifully blinked her eyes at Jasper. “I didn’t mean to, Jasper… I didn’t know we weren’t supposed to pick them.”
Seeing her mimicry, Judy seethed and inwardly murmured, “Go ahead and act pitiful all you

want. Mr Hayes isn’t going to fall for that!”
Jasper said nothing and took the rose from Louisa. Just when Judy thought he’d fly into a rage, he carefully removed all the thorns and handed it back to the latter.
“If you like it, I’ll have someone dig up all the roses here and replant them at home.”
“You’re the best!” Louisa’s eyes shone with a bright smile.
Judy stood frozen. It was the first time she’d ever seen Jasper treat a woman so well…
Ever perceptive, she immediately apologized, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize who I was dealing with or your connection to the CEO.”
While Louisa shot her a cool glance and said nothing, Jasper snapped, “Get out.”
“Understood.” Judy left with cold sweat soaking her back
Jasper turned back to Louisa and asked in a noticeably gentler voice, “Were you bored?”
“A little.”
“Wait one more hour, and we’ll go home together.”
“Sure!”
Back in the CEO’s office, Louisa never saw Judy again. She went home with Jasper after he got off work, completely unaware that every female secretary in the office had been fired.
…
The next day, Louisa got up early and carefully got ready.
It was her first day back at college. From now on, she was going to work hard and make sure not to disappoint Jasper again.
After washing up, she went downstairs and saw him sitting on the couch, reading the morning paper. His black shirt and tailored pants wrapped around his perfect physique with elegance. Even just sitting still, he formed a beautiful painting.
“Good morning, Jasper.”
Her bright voice sounded beside him, followed by a faint warmth landing on his cheek.
Jasper narrowed his eyes and wrapped an arm around her waist to pull her onto his lap in a controlled, gentle movement. “Are you trying to seduce me first thing in the morning?”
She blushed. “That just means you have terrible self-control.”
“Are you sure? Would you like to experience what it means when I don’t have any self-control at all?” he murmured, leaning in so close that their breaths were intertwined.

Just then, the butler Freddie Pittman’s voice rang out. “Mrs. Hayes, Mr. Hayes, breakfast is ready.”
Louisa reflectively shoved Jasper away and pretended nothing had happened. “Time to eat.”
Sensing Jasper’s sharp, murderous gaze, Freddie immediately lowered his head and felt slightly aggrieved. How was he supposed to know that Jasper had been flirting?
The weather was faintly cool in early fall.
After breakfast, Jasper sent Louisa to college, and she watched as Stellaris College slowly came
into view.
The campus was grand, palace-like, and steeped in prestige. There were only two types of students who studied here-those from wealthy families with money to buy their way in and
true academic elites.
Louisa belonged to the first category. Though she had excellent grades upon enrolment, her grades had dramatically declined later on. The Lowes had to donate two buildings before she was barely allowed back in.
“I’ll get going now.”
She gave Jasper a bright smile and pushed the door to step out.
Behind her, he opened his door and followed her out.
