Chapter 111 Miss you
“What were you thinking about, huh?” Damien Taylor unbuckled his seatbelt and turned to
Amelia Johnson, his expression unusually serious.
Amelia instantly regretted letting that slip. Why did she blurt out how much she missed him?
Thankfully, she didn’t say too much, or that would’ve been totally embarrassing.
“Uh, I… I was just…” Her eyes darted around in panic.
Damien chuckled softly, ruffling her hair with a fond smile. “It’s fine. You can say whatever’s
on your mind when you’re with me–just be yourself.”
Even with his comforting words, Amelia still couldn’t make herself say the full truth. She
hesitated and settled on repeating half of what she said earlier.
“I… I was just thinking about you.”
As soon as the words left her lips, her cheeks went bright red. That still sounded way too
much!
“That’s perfect. Keep saying stuff like that from now on.” Damien’s eyes curved into a smile
as he looked at her, his gaze warm and earnest.
If she missed him even when they were together, wouldn’t it be worse when they’re apart? He
liked the sound of that.
Amelia quickly nodded, then mumbled a quick “Good night” before scurrying out of the car
and rushing inside, too flustered to look back.
Not long after she stepped through the door, she ran into Richard Johnson. “Dad,” she
greeted him politely.
“You’re back just in time. Go upstairs and check on your sister. She hasn’t touched any food
or water all day. That’s no way to take care of yourself.” Richard sighed, clearly worried.
What happened had clearly hit Sabrina hard.
Amelia nodded. “Where’s Grace? Is she upstairs with Sabrina?”
Richard’s expression soured the moment her name came up. “She left early this morning and
still hasn’t come back. Who knows where she’s off to. Just ignore her.”
Amelia frowned slightly but kept quiet. She made her way upstairs, her guard up just in case.
Knock knock knock-
She waited at the door after knocking and heard a bit of shuffling inside, but Sabrina didn’t
respond. Amelia tried the door handle and found it unlocked, so she pushed it open and
walked in.
Sabrina opened her eyes, and when she saw it was Amelia, that almost–crying look
disappeared in a flash. She’d thought it was their dad.
Instead, she snapped at Amelia. “Don’t you know how to knock?”
“I did knock.” Amelia blinked like she genuinely didn’t get what she did wrong.
“You still came in without me saying you could!”
Amelia blinked again, all innocence. “But you didn’t say I couldn’t either…”
“You… Ugh, forget it. Talking to you just makes my head hurt.” Sabrina hugged the pillow
Amelia had given her earlier like it was priceless treasure.
Because to her, that was Damien’s gift.
Sabrina eyed Amelia, who had pulled over a chair and taken a seat. If Damien ever found out
Amelia gave away something he gifted, he’d probably blow up.
Amelia tried to coax her, voice soft. “Sabrina, Dad said you haven’t eaten anything today.
That’s not good for your health. Just eat a little, okay?”
Sabrina shook off Amelia’s hand, scoffing. “Stop pretending like you care. Seeing me like this
probably makes your day. Are you seriously gonna say you didn’t mess with my dress that
night?”
Not stupid after all, huh. Amelia masked her panic with a guilty–looking shake of her head
and played the innocent card hard.
“Why would you think that? Didn’t Dad have that dress checked? They said it came apart
because you pulled on it too tight. Maybe… maybe it’s time to cut back on snacks…”
“Shut up!” Sabrina snapped, her expression twisting, shooting Amelia a glare sharp enough to
cut.
