Sabrina Johnson rolled her eyes at Amelia and sneered, “Why are you being so secretive? Got
something shady in your phone or what?”
Amelia looked a little hurt as she shook her head. “It’s not that I don’t want to show you.
Damien said anything he sends me isn’t for anyone else to see. If I let you check, he’d be
seriously mad.”
Then, acting like she was being generous, she handed the phone over. “But you’re my lovely
little sister, I won’t tell Damien.”
Sabrina lit up, thinking she’d won. That’s more like it.
But just as she reached out, Richard Johnson smacked her hand away. “What are you looking
at? Curiosity killed the cat!” Then he softened his tone as he turned to Amelia. “Amelia, when
Damien says something, you have to listen, got it?”
Amelia nodded obediently. “Yeah, I got it, Dad.”
Seeing the bright red mark on Sabrina’s hand, Amelia couldn’t help but smirk inside. Richard
didn’t pull that slap at all.
Was this just him letting out built–up frustration?
Sabrina sniffled, rubbing the back of her hand. Since when had their roles flipped in their
dad’s eyes?
Once Amelia got back to her room, she pulled out her phone quickly–not a message fro Damien, but a surprise one from Vivian Greene, who she hadn’t heard from in forever!
Vivian: Amelia, are you free tomorrow? I’ll be in Heliovard. Thought we could catch up.
Amelia: Of course! How about tomorrow night?
Vivian replied in seconds: “Sure.”
Thinking she’d get to see Vivian tomorrow instantly put Amelia in a great mood. Even when she and Damien started up their gaming chat, he noticed her tone right away.
“You sound happy.”
“I have a super important friend coming over tomorrow. I’m excited.”

“Guy or girl?”
“It’s a girl.”
If she’s that close with you, she’s gotta be cool. Want me to book a spot for you two?”
Amelia quickly shook her head. “Nah, we’ll sort it ourselves.”
If Damien booked it, it’d probably be somewhere ridiculously fancy, and Vivian wasn’t into
that kind of thing–especially not Western food.
Damien asked again. ‘So does that mean I get no time with you tomorrow?”
They were meeting at night, but Amelia had a task meeting with Emily Carter during the day.
“Uh… Yeah, kind of.”
“How about this: I’ll come pick you up after you see your friend. Don’t say no.” His tone was
firm–like it wasn’t a suggestion.
Amelia chuckled. “If you won’t take no for an answer, why bother asking?”
“I was worried you might actually say no.”
His voice was gentle but carried a hint of genuine unease, like a kid worried they’d be left out.
It poked right at Amelia’s soft spot.
“Of course not. I’d never say no to you.”
“You wouldn’t say no to anything?”
She didn’t see it, but Damien was grinning like a fox on the other end, playing up the sadness
in his voice just for fun.
“Uh… depends?” Amelia scratched her head, feeling like she might be walking into a trap.
“It’s fine, forget it.”
Hearing that slight drop in his tone made Amelia cave. “Well, what if you ask something!
seriously can’t do?”
“Do I sound like the kind of guy who’d ask something crazy?”
She was stumped. Damien made it sound so reasonable that she couldn’t even argue. And anyway, they weren’t in the same place right now–so what could he even ask her to do?Amelia Johnson agreed without much hesitation. “Alright, fine. What do you want me to

anyway.
“Whoa, that’s so sweet! Are you married in real life too?”
