When Amelia Johnson mentioned her friend liked red bean–flavored mochi, Damien Taylor
immediately thought of his older brother, Brandon, who had the same taste.
So Damien pulled some strings to get a few boxes from an old brand that had long
disappeared from the market.
He drove over and called Amelia, “I’m here. Are you still at the same place?”
Amelia stood on tiptoes to look around. “Nope, we came out already. How about you wait by
the fountain?”
Vivian had just gone to the restroom.
Turns out Damien was already near the fountain. “Alright, no rush. I’ll wait.”
Ten minutes later, Vivian came out looking a bit embarrassed. She leaned in and whispered
to Amelia, “Sorry, I don’t think I can meet your boyfriend today. My period came early and I’m really not feeling well. Maybe next time.”
Amelia nodded understandingly. “Don’t worry. There’ll be other chances.”
–
“Oh, right, Viv your hotel’s right upstairs, isn’t it? I’ll bring something up for you later. My boyfriend bought it.”
Since it was already bought, Vivian didn’t push back. “Alright then, I’ll head up first. Room
1709.”
“Got it. I’ll be there soon.” With that, Amelia turned and hurried toward the fountain.
Vivian was planning to leave, but something urged her to follow behind quietly.
Maybe she just really wanted to see what kind of guy Amelia was dating. She’d always se Amelia as a daughter and naturally didn’t want anyone hurting her.
She didn’t go up to them directly, just watched from afar.
The guy was tall with a solid build. Looked pretty dependable, to be honest.
She made a mental note.
She’d heard from Oliver that Amelia had brought her boyfriend home, but hadn’t had a chance

to ask more. She figured once things settled down, she’d sit down with Hannah and Daniel to
talk about this Damien guy.
After watching for a bit, Vivian turned and headed back to her hotel room.
Damien walked with Amelia to the hotel lobby, and she told him to wait there. “I’ll just be a
minute”
He watched her graceful figure disappear, tempted for a moment to do a background check-
but dropped the thought just as fast.
This was an important friend to Amelia. If she ever found out he did that, she’d be mad for
sure.
When Vivian opened the bag and saw the red bean mochi – her all–time favorite – she was stunned. That old brand had stopped selling years ago.
“Wow, your boyfriend’s really something.”
Though the compliment was for Damien, Amelia felt oddly proud. “Right? He’s amazing. I’m
not exaggerating.”
“Alright then, you guys should head back. It’s getting late.” Vivian gave her a hug before walking her out.
Unable to resist, Vivian took a bite of one. It tasted exactly like she remembered.
Her eyes got a little misty.
It brought back so many memories from her time in Heliovard…
In the car, Amelia suddenly noticed Damien had changed into a more formal suit, and her heart softened right on the spot.
“It’s okay we didn’t meet this time. There’s always next time.““Yeah.” Damien leaned over to buckle Amelia’s seatbelt and sneakily stole a quick kiss. “So, wanna head to your parents‘ place, the Taylor Estate, or… my place?”
“I thought you’d sleep over with Damien again. Aren’t you worried about another s‘ night?” Emily laughed and made a quick escape before Amelia’s slipper could hi
