Amelia Johnson unlocked her phone and couldn’t help throwing up a small “V” sign in delight

before tucking the phone away contentedly. But when she turned her head, she nearly jumped

out of her skin–Damien Taylor was standing right behind her out of nowhere.

“You–do you have to appear like a ninja all the time!?”

Damien raised an eyebrow, only now seeming to register her voice. “What did you say?”

Amelia blinked. “You didn’t hear me? Then what were you looking at?”

He jerked his chin in the direction of the racetrack. “Liam’s doing pretty well.”

“What about you then?” Amelia blurted out.

Damien looked confused. “Me?”

She nodded seriously. Watching Liam having such a blast on the track made her wonder–did

Damien also enjoy racing? That would make sense, especially since he bought Black Feather.

It hit her just then–she barely knew anything about Damien’s hobbies, while he seemed to

know her like the back of his hand. That made her feel a little guilty.

“You must like racing too, right?”

Damien didn’t answer. He just gave her a soft smile and pulled her into a hug.

Right then, Liam had finished three laps and came running over excitedly. “So, second sis,

what do you think? Don’t I totally vibe with Black Feather?”

Oh. Now it made sense why he told her earlier to watch closely–clearly planning to hint at

keeping the car.

“You look great out there. I bet you have a real shot at a prize this time.”

Liam’s eyes lit up, clearly encouraged, and just about to ask for the car. But Damien beat him

to it.

“I already had the one you liked shipped over. You’ll get it tomorrow, take it out for a spin and

you’re good to go for the competition.”

Realizing Damien had cut him off, Liam pouted dramatically. Still, a brand–new car wasn’t a

total loss.

When Brandon found out Damien had gifted his prized Black Feather to Amelia, he didn’t

need any more proof–Damien was serious about her, no doubt about it.

And with that, Brandon felt reassured. Even if he wasn’t the one for her, as long as she had

someone who’d protect her for life, he could truly wish her happiness.

At the Taylor estate, Evelyn had organized a big family dinner to welcome Brandon home.

That also meant Amelia would be meeting Damien’s father, Anthony Taylor, for the first time

-which had her nerves kicking in hard.

She had heard Anthony was super strict. If she made a bad impression tonight, she could

kiss her chances goodbye.

Pulling Damien aside, she whispered, “Damien, what does your dad like? Maybe I can still run

out and grab a gift before he shows.”

Damien tugged her back lightly and flicked her forehead. “Relax, he’s not the type to care

about gifts. I’ve told him about you plenty of times. He thinks highly of you.”

“Seriously?”

“Of course. Why would I lie?”

His words calmed her down immediately. She followed him back inside, only to suddenly

realize–wait, he said he mentioned her to his dad several times?

But… why??

Inside, Damien joined his brothers to chat and sip some wine. Meanwhile, Amelia was pulled

aside by Evelyn to watch some drama together. Evelyn Taylor grinned as she offered Amelia

Johnson a glass of new fruit wine. “It’s sweet, light on the alcohol, and good for the skin. Us ladies will love it. I already had some packed for you and Damien–take it when you leave

tomorrow.”
