High–paying gig? Of course Amelia Johnson wasn’t gonna say no. “Alright, but let’s hear it
first–what’s the job?”
Emily Carter scratched her head, a bit sheepish. “Hehe, I kinda only looked at the number.
Gimme a sec, I’ll check the details now.”
Amelia gave her a look, palm to forehead, then leaned back casually to wait.
Just then, a message popped up on her phone. It was from Damien Taylor.
He asked if she liked theme parks.
Amelia blinked. Theme parks? Full of fun and joy–who doesn’t like them?
Is he hinting at taking me there or what?
But then came his reply–just three words: “Got it.”
That’s it? Amelia frowned. What was that supposed to mean?
“Okay! I checked. They want you to design a theme park!” Emily chimed in.
Amelia was still trying to make sense of Damien’s message when Emily stopped talking and just grinned at her. “You stared at it that long? And c’mon, it’s not like I know how to design a
theme park.”
“You can learn. Design work is all kinda similar anyway. For you, this should be, like, a walk in the park. You’re practically a prodigy! Besides, look at that paycheck. You need the money now, right?” Emily laid it all out.
Amelia rolled her eyes, but yeah, she wasn’t wrong.
“Fine. Then one more thing–who’s the client?”
Lately, she’d asked Emily to help dig into that suspiciously huge transaction to see if it was
linked to Damien, but they hit a dead end, so she had let it go.
Emily glanced at her screen again. “Only says ‘First Consortium.“”
Amelia’s eyes lit up, lips curling slightly. “Well, that explains the sky–high budget.”
So yeah, money talked. Amelia took the job. After that, she started seriously brushing up on

architecture and garden design.
She didn’t make it back to the Johnson house until late.
“Finally, you’re home! You didn’t answer any calls yesterday–I was worried sick!” Sabrina
Johnson dashed over, red–eyed and emotional.
Anyone else would’ve thought she was super concerned.
Fact was, she hadn’t slept ‘cause she’d been going crazy wondering who Amelia had “married
” in that game–and was pissed Amelia ignored her calls and ditched her on Valentine’s Day.
Not to mention Ethan Collins hadn’t taken her out either.
Rachel Williams stood stiffly beside Jessica Williams, getting nudged a few times before she
reluctantly chimed in, “Yeah, we were all really worried.”
Grace Williams stepped up, acting all stern. “Alright, you two, that’s enough. Good thing
Amelia’s back safe. What if the help overhears and starts spreading rumors–calling her
some girl who’s never home and doesn’t behave?”
Amelia’s face stayed calm and sweet, but inside she was rolling her eyes. You’re the one
talking behind my back all day–don’t pin it on the staff. They don’t gossip nearly as much as
you.
Right as she opened her mouth to speak, Jessica jumped in. “Sis, you’re her mother–you
should be worried. But didn’t Damien say he’d be looking after her?”
She tugged subtly on Grace’s arm as she said it.
Richard Johnson nodded. “She’s right. Amelia, being with Damien, you need to keep things
smooth. Don’t do anything to upset him, got it?”
Mother? Grace Williams? What a joke.
Amelia’s eyes dimmed for a split second, but when she looked up again, her face was pure
sunshine as she nodded obediently. “Okay, I will.“But it seriously felt like Damien Taylor
always went along with Amelia Johnson, no matter what she wanted.
Right then, Rachel Williams, with her sharp eyes, noticed the ring on Amelia’s hand and
blurted out, “Whoa, isn’t that the one from the game? Looks awesome! Where did you get it,
Amelia?”

“Thanks, brother–in–law.” Jessica smiled and then turned to Amelia with a gentle voice, picking food for her. “You’ve gotten so skinny, sweetie, eat a bit more, okay?”
