Chapter 147 Something wasn’t right
Early the next morning.
Still half–asleep, Amelia Johnson was jolted awake by the buzzing of her phone. She groped
for it on the nightstand, answered groggily with a stuffy voice, “Hello?”
Emily Carter sounded surprised on the other end. “Wait, you’re still in bed? Girl, it’s already
nine!”
‘… Damien went to bed super late last night, okay?” Amelia mumbled.
Emily immediately jumped on that, her voice full of drama. “Oh my god, are you guys getting
that close already? Didn’t you say you two were just living together in peace or whatever? Babe, you’re totally falling for Damien and don’t even realize it! You can’t hide this from me!”
“Would you shut up? Damien was the one working late, and I just couldn’t fall asleep…”
Amelia cut herself off mid–sentence, realizing she was giving too much away.
Last night, Damien had told her to sleep first while he finished some work, but she ended up
staring at the ceiling for ages until he finally got in bed, and only then could she fall asleep.
She coughed. “Anyway, quit the nonsense–what do you want?”
“Right, business.” Emily’s tone suddenly turned serious. “Did you meet Arthur Blake
yesterday?”
Amelia ran a hand through her messy hair and replied, “Yeah, why?”
She had a bad feeling.
Sure enough, Emily explained that photos of her having dinner with Arthur had gone viral
online.
People were tearing her apart, saying she must’ve cheated to get ahead in the competition. Some hardcore pianists and well–known music lovers had even openly demanded she be
disqualified.
Amelia scrolled through the pics online, her head instantly pounding. That restaurant was supposed to be crazy private. How the hell did someone manage to snap photos?
Then it hit her–it must’ve been that waiter who’d taken sneaky pics of Brandon. But looking

back now, it wasn’t Brandon he was targeting–it was her and Arthur!

Rubbing her temples, Amelia took a deep breath and told herself to calm down. Freaking out
wouldn’t help. First, she needed to wash up and eat something.
But as soon as she got downstairs, people were lining up to check on her. Leading the charge
was Evelyn Taylor, her eyes full of concern. “Summer, I don’t believe a word of what’s online.
After hearing you and Damien play together last night, I know the truth. Don’t be upset-
Damien’s already handling things. We won’t let anyone drag your name through the mud.”
Dorothy Taylor was equally supportive, standing firmly in Amelia’s corner. Even Anthony
Taylor looked seriously ticked off that someone would dare pull a stunt like this.
Liam Taylor practically exploded, gripping his fist tightly. “Anyone who messes with my
sister–in–law must have a death wish!”
Brandon Taylor, sitting quietly in his wheelchair, looked at Amelia with guilt and worry. This
probably had something to do with him.
Amelia gave him a small shake of the head, not even a trace of blame in her eyes. “It’s okay. As long as you all believe in me, nothing else matters. The truth will speak for itself.”
Seeing her stay so calm, the whole Taylor family visibly relaxed.
Liam even blurted out dramatically, “No wonder you’re Damien’s girl! You two are legit made
of steel. This minor bump? Nothing.”
After breakfast, Evelyn insisted Amelia stay put. Until things settled down, she wasn’t about
to let Amelia out of her sight.
At that moment, the TV was broadcasting a report on Amelia’s so–called scandal. The host was reading online comments with such intensity, she acted like Amelia was right there in front of her. Before Amelia Johnson could even react, Evelyn Taylor was already fuming. “Isn’t that female host working for one of our media companies? Liam, call Damien right now and have her fired. Everyone else involved, too! Jumping to conclusions without knowing the full
story–where’s the professionalism?”
Amelia felt a wave of warmth from Evelyn’s fierce defense. Was this what having a mom felt
like?
“Thank you, Auntie.”

“Silly girl, don’t be so polite. You’re family,” Evelyn said as she wrapped her arms around
Amelia.
