Chapter 161 You are a freaking ghost
It was already noon.
Yawning, Emily Carter finally made his way downstairs, rubbing his stomach. “Amelia, did you
make lunch?”
Amelia Johnson rolled her eyes. “Weren’t you just doubting my cooking skills yesterday? Now
you’re already back for more?”
“Hehe, don’t be like that, Amelia,” Emily said with a cheeky grin as he moved closer. “If you don’t feed your little Carter soon, he might just starve to death!”
“…It’s already done and still warm. Go eat before it gets cold,” Amelia said, reaching out to mess up his already messy bedhead even more.
“I knew you were the best!” Emily beamed and rushed off to eat.
While watching TV, Amelia caught a commercial for mooncakes and suddenly remembered
the Mid–Autumn Festival was right around the corner.
She immediately thought about heading back to the countryside for the holiday.
“Ding dong!”
The doorbell rang.
Amelia opened the door and was surprised to see Brandon Taylor standing there. “Brandon? What brings you here? Come in.”
Brandon smiled gently. “Emily invited me over. Said I should drop by when I had time.”
From the dining table, Emily waved his chopsticks in greeting.
Amelia sat down with Brandon for a chat, and the topic soon shifted to the upcoming holiday. Brandon got a bit nostalgic, recalling his childhood Mid–Autumns in the countryside.
“Then why don’t we all go back together and make it a proper reunion this year?” Amelia
suggested.
Brandon’s eyes lit up. “That’d be great.”
Honestly, he’d been waiting for her to say that.

During his time abroad for treatment, Brandon had often felt isolated. But memories of his
time with her always gave him strength.
“I’ll text Damien,” Amelia picked up her phone immediately. She’d been calling him more
affectionately these days.
Brandon shook his head. “Damien’s swamped with work lately. I don’t think he can make it.”
He wasn’t lying. Just that morning, he overheard his father assigning Damien a business trip
overseas for over half a month–definitely not in time for the festival.
Amelia’s shoulders sagged a little as she put her phone down. She really hoped Damien
could join them. Mid–Autumn just wasn’t the same without everybody together.
Still, work came first.
It’s okay, if not this year, then maybe next time–or the one after that.
That thought gave her a bit of comfort.
With her plan set, Amelia started packing for the trip and preparing gifts for her foster
parents and younger brother.
“Riiing riiing…”
While gathering things, Amelia picked up a call from her aunt. “Hey, Aunt Jessica, what’s up?”
“Sweetie, when are you coming home? Mid–Autumn’s almost here. Auntie’s gonna make you some mooncakes,” Jessica Williams said warmly.
Amelia raised an eyebrow, teasing her, “Really? But I like mine super special–they’re not easy
to make, you know.”
Jessica replied confidently, “Not an issue at all. I passed a pastry chef exam once,
remember? Mooncakes? Piece of cake.”
Well then, let’s see, Amelia thought, then cleared her throat, “Okay, make me chive and durian
mooncakes.”
Jessica froze. Chive and… durian? Is that even edible?
“You serious, Amelia?”
“Yup!” she said brightly.

Still, she smiled through it. “Alright then. You better come back and eat every single one.” “Sure, Auntie, as long as you make mooncakes, I’ll definitely come home!” Amelia Johnson
agreed brightly, then ended the call in a flash.
Amelia zipped up her suitcase. “All done! Come help me carry.”

The group soon arrived in the village.
whispering, “Why the heck is that i***t here too?”
