Damien Taylor walked around the car to open the passenger door for Amelia Johnson.

Amelia quickly said, “Damien, really, no need to carry me this time.”

“I’ll help you,” Damien reached out his hand toward her.

Just as Amelia stepped out of the car, she saw Richard Johnson walking their way.

He shouted, “Amelia Johnson, get over here right now!”

Leaning on Damien’s arm, Amelia moved slowly toward him. “Dad, can you not scare my friend like that?”

Richard snorted. “Friend? More like-”

He froze when he finally got a good look at Damien.

“Dad, my friend’s last name is Taylor,” Amelia added, knowing Richard had recognized him.

“Mr. Taylor?” Richard blurted, shocked. He’d seen Damien’s photo in business magazines, and even once caught a glimpse of him at a charity auction.

“Good evening, sir,” Damien nodded politely.

Richard instantly became flustered. “Oh, you’re too kind, Mr. Taylor.”

Amelia turned to Damien and said, “Thanks for driving me back. You should head back now.”

Richard clearly wasn’t happy with her words, giving her a disapproving look before quickly changing his tone with a big smile. “Mr. Taylor, it’s still early. Why don’t you come in for a bit?”

Damien looked at Amelia, waiting for her take.

“Dad, it’s getting late. Damien’s got more stuff to handle,” Amelia said, throwing Damien a knowing glance. “Right?”

“Yeah, tonight’s packed. Rain check?” Damien replied, though there was a tinge of disappointment in his voice.

“Alright, then. Anytime,” Richard said awkwardly, not daring to insist.

Inwardly, Amelia rolled her eyes. “Anytime”? How eager could he be?

Right then, Grace Williams came out and scolded her, “Amelia, seriously? What if Ethan finds out? You two are still engaged, after all-”
