Amelia Johnson wasn’t actually upset she just frowned a little, more out of disappointment than anything. Honestly, she wasn’t even really listening to what Sabrina was saying.

Ethan Collins saw the look on Amelia’s face and couldn’t help feeling smug. Yep, just like he thought- Amelia was totally playing hard to get.

A few hours ago, Sabrina had asked him to go catch a movie. He’d planned on saying no, but in the end, he still went. Probably because that party earlier left him in kind of a sour mood.

The image of Amelia dancing the first song with Damien Taylor kept flashing in his mind, and it just rubbed him the wrong way.

Grace Williams chimed in, “Ethan, since your place is nearby, why not stay for some tea before heading out?”

“Sure,” Ethan replied casually, then made a beeline to sit next to Amelia, like it was no big deal.

Sabrina bit her lip, feeling uncomfortable. Wasn’t Ethan supposed to hate Amelia? Why was he sitting next to her? Guess he just didn’t think it through.

“Amelia, sweetie, you really shouldn’t go to those kinds of parties anymore,” Grace added gently, feigning concern. “It’s for your own good.” She mostly just wanted to jog Richard Johnson’s memory about Amelia’s past ‘episodes, and subtly remind Ethan of what kind of fiancée she really was.

“She has a point. Once you act like a real lady, then maybe,” Richard agreed, nodding along. Tonight Amelia just got lucky meeting Damien-but luck doesn’t last forever. If she screws up in front of him again,

it’s over.

Grace sighed dramatically. “I’m not even expecting her to be some perfect lady. I’d settle for her just not embarrassing the Johnson family. Like that one time-she showed up wearing knockoffs to a formal party. Thank God no one recognized her. If people had found out she was from our family-and your future daughter-in-law, Ethan-what a mess that would’ve been.”

Just as Amelia opened her mouth to speak, Ethan cut in first. “That outfit she wore wasn’t fake. It was the real deal.”

“What did you just say?” Grace frowned, obviously confused. That outfit had been a cheap market find Sabrina picked out-no way it was legit.

“We were wrong. Amelia wasn’t wearing knockoffs,” Ethan explained.
