Damien Taylor placed the phone gently into Amelia Johnson’s hand, “Sorry, thought this was mine.”

“It’s okay.” Her cheeks flushed slightly, two faint patches of red giving her away.

The call was from Emily Carter. Amelia quickly hit the answer button.

“Hey, Amelia, are you at Taylor Mansion yet?” Emily asked.

“I’m already at Damien’s place,” Amelia replied.

“I bought a bunch of groceries. Wanna cook lunch?” There was a clear hint of hope in his voice.

“Got it. I’ll head over in a bit.” She rolled her eyes internally. All that beating around the bush, and in the end, it was just him wanting her to cook.

Once the call ended, Amelia turned to Damien. “Wanna have lunch together? I’ll cook.”

“Sure.” Damien agreed without hesitation.

Amelia hadn’t really expected him to say yes-she was just being polite. “I usually just cook some basic stuff. Not sure if that’s your thing.”

“Why’s that?”

“Well, you probably eat a lot of fancy food, right?”

“Sometimes, yeah. But that kind of stuff all the time? Not exactly great for your health.”

Guess he’d just gotten sick of it. What a life. If she ever got super rich, she’d definitely go all out too.

Just as she stood up, she felt dizzy, her legs wobbly and unsteady.

Damien caught her right away, brows furrowing. “You skipped breakfast?”

“Yeah…” she mumbled, the dizziness making it hard to focus.

He carried her straight to the sofa. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”

“Wait,” she called after him. “It’s probably low blood sugar. Got any candy?”

“There’s none here. I’ll grab some fast,” and with that, he bolted out the door.

Moments later, Damien rang the bell at the house next door.

Emily opened up quickly, looking surprised to see him.

“Got any candy or breakfast?” Damien cut straight to the point.

Emily blinked, even more confused. “Uh… yeah, I’ve got candy. But breakfast’s already gone.”Damien said,

I need to borrow your kitchen and some groceries for a bit.”
