Amelia was getting anxious. “Babe, are you out of your mind? If he doesn’t meet your expectations, are you seriously gonna break them up?”

Daniel stayed calm. “Honey, have some faith in them.”

She lowered her voice. “It’s the first time Amelia’s brought a boyfriend home, and you pull this stunt? What are you trying to do? Don’t make me lose it.”

Daniel chuckled. “Congrats, you guys passed the compatibility quiz.”

Just then, Amelia felt her right hand warm up. She looked down – Damien had taken her hand.

His hand was big, steady, and comforting. Some strange warmth rose from her chest, and she could feel her pulse speed up.

After dinner, Daniel pulled Hannah aside.

“Honey, don’t be mad.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulder. “That quiz wasn’t the point. I just wanted to get a feel for Damien’s character. Honestly, he seems calm and reliable. I’m impressed.”

Hannah gave him a side-eye. “You got some sort of split personality? Just now you looked all serious, and now you’re singing his praises?”

“I admit I went a bit far, but I just want what’s best for Amelia. And hey, it worked out better than I hoped.”

This was Amelia’s first time bringing someone home; of course Daniel took it seriously.

Most people would’ve been annoyed by the quiz, maybe even stormed off.

But Damien didn’t. Not once did he look irritated.

So yeah, Daniel was satisfied.

Later that night, in the bedroom.

“I’ll take the couch,” Damien said.

“You’re too tall, the couch won’t be comfy. You take the bed,” Amelia replied. No way she was letting Damien camp out on the sofa.

“It’s fine. This couch is roomy.” With that, Damien lay down.

Next second, a muffled groan. “Amelia, I think I threw my back. Help me up?”

Amelia rushed over. “Are you okay? Has this happened before?”

Damien answered, “Only since I met you.”
