Reborn Second Chance With The Scheming Tycoon novel Chapter 47

Richard Johnson frowned, thinking, What’s going on now? Could it be that Patricia Collins found out about Amelia and Damien?

“Patricia, take it easy, it’s probably a misunderstanding. Sit down, we can talk this out.” Richard forced a smile as he tried to smooth things over.

Patricia snorted, “Amelia didn’t come home last night. She was messing around with some guy. Our Collins family is calling off the engagement!”

“It’s not what you think. She stayed over at her cousin’s place last night. I gave her permission,” Richard explained.

“You really just believed that because she said it? What if she was out sneaking around with some man, huh?” Patricia was dead set on blaming Amelia for wronging Ethan.

Grace Williams chimed in, annoyed, “Richard, seriously, she’s a girl-it’s not safe for her to be out overnight like that.”

“Yeah, Dad,” added Sabrina Johnson in a tone that made her meaning totally clear, “even if Amelia’s close to her cousin, it doesn’t look great for a girl to be that careless. People will talk.”

Amelia held back a sneer. Who would be gossiping? Probably just these two drama queens.

“Patricia, you’ve really got the wrong idea here,” Richard said, thumping his chest. “I swear on everything, she was at her cousin’s house last night, definitely nothing shady going on.”

“Stop trying to explain. Let’s just call off this engagement. Tell me, how does Amelia deserve someone like Ethan?” Patricia’s voice was ice cold. “I’m not letting my son settle for this.”

“Come on, Patricia, our families go way back. That engagement was arranged ages ago. We shouldn’t break it off so easily. And it’s true Amelia hasn’t grown up with me, but I promise to guide her better from now on.”

Richard wasn’t ready to give up either side. If things actually worked out with Damien, then fine, drop the Collins family. If they didn’t, he still had them as backup.

“Wait around till when exactly? There’s no ‘later,” Patricia snapped.

Grace quickly interjected, “Richard, Patricia, I’ve got an idea. One that won’t hurt the relationship between our families but still keeps you happy, Patricia.”

“What idea?” Richard asked, curious.

Grace smiled, “Well, I was thinking maybe Sabrina cou-”

Before she could finish, Amelia cut in, “Aunt Patricia, could you take a look at this first?”

“Won’t change my decision,” Patricia said sharply.

Amelia placed her phone in front of her. “I think you’ll want to see this. It proves I didn’t do anything wrong.
