Chapter 48 Help her come up with an excuse
“Amelia, come on, it’s just a big misunderstanding. Don’t let this mess cause tension between our families, “Richard Johnson said, secretly glad he had asked Sabrina to get Emily to bring Amelia back-otherwise, things could’ve gone real bad.
“Fine, I’m leaving,” Patricia Collins replied, shooting a dismissive look at Sabrina. Clearly, she had nothing more to say to her.
“I’ll walk you out,” Grace Williams followed behind.
Grace gently linked arms with Patricia, her voice low, “I get it, you’re upset. If I were in your shoes, there’s no way I’d accept someone like Sabrina as a daughter-in-law either.”
“That old man is all hung up on that girl’s fortune or whatever-it’s pointless trying to talk him out of it,” Patricia huffed, frustration leaking out of her like steam.
“Honestly, he’s lost it. If she really ends up marrying into your family, there won’t be a day of peace,” Grace sighed with a helpless expression. “Being a stepmom like me is tough. Can’t yell, can’t scold-just gotta suck it up.”
Patricia patted her hand reassuringly. “In my mind, the only fit for my son is your daughter, Sabrina. As long as I’m around, Amelia won’t be walking into the Collins family that easily.”
Hearing that, Grace was practically glowing with joy. “Don’t say that out loud in front of Mr. Collins though -he’s already got his eye on you.”
“Just now was way too close. Aunt almost found out everything,” Sabrina gritted her teeth. That moment- Grace was just about to bring up the idea of her stepping in for the marriage-and Amelia had to mess things up.
“Found out what?” Amelia glanced sideways at her.
“That you spent last night with Damien,” Sabrina said sharply. It galled her to no end-Amelia got to be Ethan’s fiancée and hang around with Damien too?
Amelia blinked innocently, a calm smile on her face. “You can’t get caught doing something you didn’t do.”
“What are you saying, Amelia?” Richard cut in, frowning. “You weren’t with Damien last night?”
“He was busy,” she said nonchalantly. “So I asked him to drop me at Emily’s place.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that earlier?” Richard looked concerned.
