Reborn Second Chance With The Scheming Tycoon novel Chapter 63

Chapter 62 Long-term collaboration

“This part’s pretty simple: the so-called master said as he opened a small box. Inside was a doll no bigger than a hand and a few long, thin needles. “Just write your sister’s name on the doll, then stick the needles in. Poke the hands or feet if you want it mild. But if you aim for the head or chest, the effects are a lot harsher. Still, you’re sisters, I’d suggest keeping it to the limbs.”

Sabrina’s eyes lit up at that. “Got it! Thank you so much, Master!”

The master gave them a sideways glance. “But keep in mind, the charm and the doll aren’t cheap. If that’s a problem…”

“We can handle it,” Grace jumped in with a smile. “A friend told me how amazing you are. We’re willing to pay.” To her, as long as they could push Amelia out of the Johnson family, that money was more than worth it.

Later that afternoon, Ethan showed up at the Johnsons’ place loaded with expensive gifts.

“Ethan, we’re all one family. What’s with the formality?” Grace beamed and welcomed him in.

Her eyes were drawn immediately to the gifts-top-tier health supplements, skincare products, even some bird’s nest. All luxury brands, all pricey.

Especially that skincare set-Grace had wanted it for ages but never could bring herself to buy it.

Sure, the Johnsons ran a business, had a company and all, but they weren’t some big-name family. Grace could only admire some things from afar.

But the Collins family? That was different. Not quite at the top, but definitely upper-class.

Ethan glanced around the room. “Aunt Grace, where’s Amelia?”

“She’s not home,” Grace said, trying to keep her irritation from showing. Was he really here just to see Amelia?

Sabrina quietly walked up beside him, her face full of concern. “Ethan, sis didn’t come home again last night.”

Ethan frowned. “Where’d she go?”

Sabrina bit her lip, looking conflicted, like she wasn’t sure she should say.

“What’s going on, Sabrina?” Ethan asked gently.

“She said… she stayed at our cousin’s place,” Sabrina mumbled, making sure to sound hesitant and vague -just enough to plant doubt.

“She said that herself?” Ethan questioned.

Sabrina nodded lightly.

Grace let out a long sigh. “That girl’s really getting out of hand lately. I can’t do anything with her anymore.”

Sabrina clutched her mom’s hand. “Mom, don’t blame sis. Dad even complimented her last night.”

Grace shook her head, clearly annoyed. “That’s your father’s fault. Amelia’s got no humility. So what if she can play the piano? Tons of people can. And just because your dad praised her once, she’s gotten full of herself. Doesn’t even listen to her parents now.”

“But for her, that kind of praise really means a lot,” Sabrina said softly

Grace snorted. “She’s just cutting corners. That’s the only song she knows how to play.”

“Really?” Sabrina blinked in surprise.

“She admitted it to your dad. I’m guessing she took some crash course,” Grace said dismissively.

Sabrina lowered her voice, like she’d just been let down. “I didn’t think sis would do something like that just to show off.”

Grace patted Sabrina’s hand. “Exactly. You’ve been learning since you were little, your skills are solid. And now people think Amelia plays better than you?”

“Mom, it’s not sis’s fault,” Sabrina said earnestly. “She just picked a flashier piece. It’s enough to fool people who don’t really know music. Mine was more mellow-I thought soft music fit the banquet better.” Then she turned and looked at Ethan. “Ethan, did she ever mention anything to you about taking a piano crash course?” She never told me. I didn’t expect her to be this unreliable,” Ethan Collins said, frowning slightly.

Hearing that, Sabrina Johnson felt secretly pleased. “Well, my sister did grow up in the countryside, so it’s understandable that she still struggles to fit in here. I think she just wants to improve herself, to not be looked down on. I get where she’s coming from.”

Grace Williams chuckled softly. “Sabrina, you’ve always been too kind. So thoughtful toward others. Amelia’s lucky to have a sister like you.”

“Mom,” Sabrina mumbled shyly, glancing at Ethan. Ethan’s still here.”

Ethan looked over at her and said seriously, “Your mom’s right though. You’ve got a good heart.”

“Ethan, you should stay for dinner tonight,” Grace offered with a smile.

“Sure,” Ethan replied, thinking Amelia would probably be back to eat. “By the way, Aunt Grace, Amelia talked to me yesterday about breaking off the engagement. Maybe you can help talk her out of it.”

Grace looked startled. “What? She said that? She never said a word to us about it.”

Sabrina’s expression changed. “She’s crazy! You’re such a great guy, why would she even think of breaking off the engagement?”

Ethan felt the same way. Everyone said Amelia wasn’t good enough for him, and now she was the one wanting out? Ridiculous.

“She’s completely out of line,” Grace sighed. “Our two families go way back. Sabrina, I told you your sister got cocky, but you didn’t believe me. Now she thinks she’s all that, even wants to ditch a great fiancé like Ethan. She’s lost it.”

Sabrina said gently, “Ethan, I’m really sorry on her behalf. She’s being too impulsive this time. When she gets back, I’ll try to talk some sense into her.”

Ethan gave her a warm look. “Sabrina, this isn’t your fault. You don’t need to apologize.”

Sabrina gave Grace a subtle look, which her mother understood instantly.

Grace turned to Ethan with a smile. “Ethan, if Amelia really won’t change her mind, why don’t we consider Sabrina instead? That way our families won’t be affected.”

Ethan looked momentarily stunned. “Aunt Grace, you’re joking, right? I’ve always seen Sabrina as my little sister.”

Grace wasn’t expecting that response and quickly tried to recover. “Don’t mind me, Ethan. I only said that because I’m worried Amelia won’t agree. It was just a desperate thought.”

Ethan looked serious. “You can’t think like that, Aunt Grace. You can’t sacrifice Sabrina’s happiness over

this.”

“Exactly, Mom. How could you say something like that?” Sabrina pouted, though her heart ached. Ethan didn’t feel the same. Not even a little.
