“So… how can I help? Amelia Johnson asked, guilt simmering in her voice. Even if it wasn’t directly her fault, it all seemed to revolve around her.
Damien replied, “We should give this a real shot-actually date.”
Amelia blinked, caught off guard. “Wait, Damien, you’re serious?”
He looked right into her eyes, voice steady. “You’ve already met my family, and they really like you. That’s the hardest part-and you sailed through. Now you’re hesitating about something as simple as dating?”
Okay, yeah… maybe she was slightly spooked.
Why did it feel like she’d stepped on a trap and was falling deeper and deeper?
Amelia bit her bottom lip. “You know I just got out of something messy. I don’t think I’m quite ready yet.”
“Not everything needs prep,” Damien said softly. Just like the day you crashed into my world all those
years ago.
Her mind wandered back to her birthday night-the very first time they met. Maybe fate really had a plan for them. “Alright, I’ll give it a try. But I have a couple conditions.”
Damien breathed out slowly, like a huge weight finally lifted. “Whatever you need, I’ll agree.”
Amelia thought for a second before speaking. “First, I want to keep this between us for now. Second, before I fall in love with you, don’t interfere in my personal life.”
Damien nodded. “Deal.”
Hearing him agree so easily, Amelia let out a small breath of relief. Asking something from Damien Taylor wasn’t exactly low-risk.
“Someone came by just now?” he asked casually.
“Yeah, Ethan Collins.”
“What did he want?”
“To scold me, obviously.” Amelia rolled her eyes. “Back then I used to jot down everything he liked in this notebook. So I shredded it right in front of him.”
There was a beat of silence.
Damien said, “I need a goodnight kiss.”
