Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 105

Chapter 105 Adrian Backs Down

you don’t want to go, then don’t,” Rosalind wrote back. “The auction may not go ahead anyway. Something could come up, and then it’s off.”

That pulled a smile out of Nora. “If Cordelia can get down here in five minutes, apologize, and stop pushing) it, then I don’t mind going in. I’m well behaved. I don’t make trouble for you.”

“Whatever makes you happy.”

Nora had what she wanted. With Grandma on it, this is done.

Mandy watched her sit there on her phone with that superior little smile, and it took work to keep the gracious act going. “If you want to meet Dr. Blithe, stop sulking and come in with us. Let Ace introduce you. She might even talk to you.”

Nora blacked out her screen and looked up at her, unimpressed. “Could you stop bouncing around like a monkey at the zoo? Your IQ bounces right along with it, somewhere in the single digits. Bring your mother next time and have her teach you some manners.”

Mandy took the whole thing as a win, and her mood lifted. “You’re my sister, so I was being nice. If you don want the help, I’ll leave you to it.”

She took Adrian’s arm. “Let’s go in, Ace. She doesn’t want the help, so I’m done with her.”

He nodded. “All right.”

The people around them were still laughing at Nora.

Two steps in, Adrian’s phone rang. He checked the screen. “I have to take this. It’s Zane Whitlock.”

Mandy aimed the next part straight at Nora. “Tonight matters. Zane asked Ace to put this auction together for him. Nobody is cancelling anything.”

And there was something in tonight’s lots they needed, something that would pull the Orion project right out of the Westons’ hands!

Adrian answered, and a rich voice came down the line, hot with temper. “What is going on over there? Who did you people manage to upset? All of a sudden I’m hearing the auction gets cancelled.

“Adrian, this auction matters to me. If you can’t run it, don’t take it on!

“You have five minutes. If she isn’t happy by then, that’s your problem!”

The line went dead.

Zane Whitlock, who had commissioned the whole auction, threw his phone down. “That auction is how I’m going to find my sister. If it gets wrecked, the Pierces will hear about it!”

Mandy watched Adrian hang up, hoping for the answer she wanted. “Ace, why was Zane calling? Did he hear what happened out here? Are you getting blamed for it?”

His face was dark. “Yes.”

Mandy was all apology. “I’m so sorry. I had no idea she’d come here and start something. Don’t hold back on

account. Have her thrown out. She shouldn’t be putting you in a spot like this.”

Adrian checked the time. Five minutes wouldn’t last long.

He turned and walked over to Nora. “I apologize for what happened. The attendant and the security staff who stopped you will both be fired.”

Mandy had expected him to throw Nora out, and the apology left her blank. “Ace, why are you apologizing

to her? She…”

Adrian put it to her straight. “I need you to settle this with Zane as soon as you can and let the auction go ahead. Once it’s over, I’ll give you whatever answer you want.

“I have five minutes to get your agreement, so whatever the problem is, let’s deal with it after the auction

Mandy’s eyes went wide. “Ace, what are you saying? Is the auction being cancelled? Is Zane cancelling it?”

The crowd was startled too. “They’re really calling it off?”

“Who is she? She never even picked up a phone, and the whole auction goes?”

Nora had no idea what any of them had said to each other. She spoke to Adrian. “I’m not going after you tonight. All I want is Cordelia down here to apologize and explain why I’m at this auction in the first place.

“Then we don’t have a problem.”

Cordelia had set all of this in motion.

Nora’s quarrel was with what had been done to her, not with anyone standing around watching.

The bodyguard beside her knew what tonight was worth to everyone, and he called upstairs in a hurry.

Cordelia heard what Nora wanted and laughed at it. “She wants an apology from me? The nerve of her!”

“Zane Whitlock says if Ms. Sinclair isn’t happy in five minutes, he’s cancelling the auction,” the bodyguard

said.

Cordelia’s laugh stayed cold. She didn’t believe a word of it.

But a second later, her face changed.

“Nora, what did you just say?” a voice cut in from the doors.

Sienna had heard that Nora was there and come hurrying over, and the line about Dr. Blithe apologizing landed like something she’d misheard.

Nora looked at her, unbothered. “I said Cordelia can come down here and apologize…”

“Ha!” Sienna broke out laughing. “You actually want Dr. Blithe to apologize to you, and to come down here in person to do it!
