Chapter 112 Taking the Credit

་ན།

Down on the garage floor, he opened his eyes slowly, made out Olivia bending over him, heard her voice. and went under again.

Nora followed the sound out of the garage and came up onto a busy street, and one look told her there was nobody out of the ordinary in it. She’d lost him.

She let out a breath, took out her phone, and called Rosalind. “Grandma, where are you?”

“At the hospital,” she said, sounding amused. “Where else would I be?

“What are you doing? Your breathing is all over the place.”

Nora was out of patience. “I’m at an auction. I spotted somebody suspicious and went after him, and then I lost him.”

“What?” Rosalind didn’t follow. “You’re not a police officer. You lost him, so you lost him. Why call an old woman about it? Did you want me out there with my cane, chasing him down for you?”

Nora pressed her lips together. “Somebody calling herself the Snowbell Healer sold Clearheart at the auction tonight. It went for $1,000,000,000.”

“For $1,000,000,000?” She raised her voice. “Nothing on this earth is worth that. Don’t let anyone take you for a ride.”

Nora had said all of it on purpose, to hear what came back. But Rosalind kept her mouth shut better than anyone alive, and when she didn’t want to give something up, nothing got it out of her.

She hung up with nothing to show for it.

By the time she got back to the hotel doors, an ambulance was going past, and she gave it one look and turned away.

Mandy was waiting out front and came straight over. “Nora, where did you go?”

Nora gave her a flat look. “I’ve never been in a hotel this expensive. I went for a look around.”

Mandy’s mouth twisted, and then she took hold of her arm. “You remember what we talked about, right?”

“Hm?” It came back to her, and Nora nodded. “I remember.”

Mandy pushed. “Do it soon. Tonight would be best. Any later and don’t say I didn’t help you.”

Nora sounded like her mind was somewhere else. “Got it.”

Mandy linked their arms. “The auction money hasn’t cleared yet. Once it does, it goes into your account. Ace says we split it down the middle.”

“You’re getting off easy there,” Nora said. Handing over any of it still stung.

Mandy fought down the urge to roll her eyes. She thought Nora was the one getting off easy!

If she hadn’t needed that trust, she’d never have parted with that kind of money!

Rare Olivia and the rest of them gone?” Nora wanted a look at that Clearheart.

Mandy lifted her chin toward the siren they could still just hear. “They’re gone. She was in that ambulance that went past you. Somebody collapsed and needed help, and she’s a doctor, so she rode along.

The siren faded out fast.

So that ambulance had been for the asthma attack in the garage, and Nora could stop thinking about it!

“All right,” she said. “I’m going.”

In the ambulance, he had come around. He saw Olivia with the gold needles in her hand, and his voice came out weak. “Was it you who saved me?”

She put the needles back in her case and smiled at him. “I gave the ambulance your location. I happen to be a doctor, so I did the needle work while we waited and got you through it.”

Olivia had only come down to the garage to chase Nora.

There had been no sign of her, only a man in the middle of an asthma attack with an emergency call open on his phone.

He’d eased off by then but was still out and not tracking anything, so she’d given the dispatcher the location.

Then, somebody had come over and called him Zane Whitlock!

This was the Whitlock heir, out of a family with real power behind it!

Running into him like this felt like fate.

While Zane was under, everything had reached him in pieces. The one thing that stayed with him was the voice giving the ambulance his location, and whatever came before that was a blur, sound with no shape to

But she was a doctor and she had the gold needles, so she was the one who had saved him. That settled it.

Zane smiled at her. “Thank you. I’m Zane Whitlock. What’s your name?”

“Olivia Blithe.”

“Olivia Blithe.” He said it back, then smiled. “I’ve heard of you. They say you’re a remarkable doctor.”

Her smile was gracious and still held something back. “That’s kind of you. I’m nothing remarkable. I study constantly so I can help more patients like you.”

A few sentences in, Zane was breathing hard from the effort of it.

Olivia stopped him talking and made him rest.

He lay there watching her, and something about her felt familiar in a way he couldn’t place.

None of that was something he’d say out loud, though. It sounded like a pickup line, and he didn’t want her
