Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 115

Chapter 115 The Test

Waiting for me Julian asked.

Nora nodded. “Have you eaten?”

“I have.”

“Then give me a minute. Let’s go for a walk.”

She turned and went back inside.

Julian hadn’t been waiting long downstairs when Nora came jogging over, tipping her head back to smile up at him. “Let’s walk.”

“All right.” He glanced down at the opal bangle on her wrist. “That’s nice. New?”

Nora gave it a shake. “From the auction today. Mandy bid on it and gave it to me.”

The Weston Estate had a wide garden, the hedges clipped into shapes by the gardeners, every path laid out with some thought behind it.

Nora and Julian walked one of them side by side, with expensive flowers on both sides and the path lights spilling over them. They talked about nothing in particular, and even in the silences it felt easy.

The wind came through, and a crabapple blossom landed in her hair.

Julian reached over, caught it, and tucked it back at her temple.

Nora stopped and looked up at him. “You’ve come home late two nights running. Is work that bad?”

“It’s a lot better than it used to be,” Julian said. “There was a time I’d sleep at the office and not come home for days.”

“What’s keeping you?” Nora asked. “Is it that project you said had a problem?”

He hadn’t expected her to steer it there, and Sienna’s words came straight back to him. His eyes darkened. “It is.”

“The Orion project, right? What do you make of it?” Nora went at it head on.

He didn’t answer right away. “Hm?”

“What Orion could turn into. Whether there’s money in it. What are you putting the odds at?”

Nora wanted to know whether Julian rated the project at all, and what he actually thought.

He took his eyes off her face and looked up at the dark edge of the sky. “It’s good. We’re adjusting the proposal now, and we’ll take the bid.”

Nora looked up at him, saw how serious he was, and frowned. “All right.”

She only knew Orion would collapse because she’d lived through it once. Win the bid and it would sit there

burning money, and the losses would run past $100,000,000.

she couldn’t have Julian pulling out on his own either. Adrian was suspicious by nature. He’d read something into it and pull out as well.

This project was her chance to take a piece out of him!

He wants it? Then he can have it.

Julian was looking down at Nora too, and his eyes cooled a degree at a time.

He trusted her.

Don’t let me be wrong about you.

After the walk, back upstairs, Julian called Miles in front of her before he went to shower. “Bring the project proposal over.”

Her own phone rang, Mandy pushing again.

“Nora, look at the time. Have you taken the pictures or not? Any later and it’s too late.”

Nora glanced back at the bathroom and moved out onto the balcony. “What’s the rush? It’s a long night. There’ll be an opening.”

“I’m worried you’ll get cold feet,” Mandy said. “And I sent your money over, $10,000,000 more than your share. Keep it.”

“Noted,” Nora said. “Since you’re paying that well, I’ll take the proposal itself and bring it to you.”

Mandy’s heart jumped. “Are you serious?”

Photographs could always be doctored. Having the real thing in hand would do just as well.

In her previous life, she’d heard the second branch of the Westons talking about it. Orion had cleared well over $1,000,000,000 in a year!

It had put Harlan Weston in the president’s chair!

“Mm, Nora said. “I want to know where the problem is too. Photographs won’t show it clearly, and it’s a nuisance, all those pages.”

“Perfect!” Mandy liked that far better. “When can you get it to me?”

Nora thought about it. “A little after two. Pick somewhere convenient.”

“Ace and I are still at the Wyndmere,” Mandy said. “Bring it here?”

“Fine.” Nora agreed without a second of thought.

The call had barely ended when Julian came out of the bathroom, and his eyes settled on her.

Nora asked him. “No needles tonight?”

“Olivia had something on.” Julian said. “She did the session at the office in the evening and then left.”

Julian settled against the headboard instead of going to the study to work, a book on finance open in his hands, reading slowly.

Nora was already yawning. “Aren’t you going to sleep?”
