Chapter 122 The Payoff
Adrian’s stomacrturned over. He pushed her hand off and took a step back, and then he remembered that she was the one who had saved him, the one piece of light he’d had in the dark.
He shouldn’t be treating her this way. Whatever she’d done, and whoever she’d done it with, if she hadn’t wanted it, he had no business being disgusted with her.
The one he should be disgusted with, the one he should hate, was Nora, who had caused all of it.
Adrian couldn’t hold the easy, polished look together anymore, and he turned on her, cold. Why would you do this to her? She’s your sister!”
“I didn’t do anything to her. She’s reaping what she planted.” Nora looked back at him. “You watched another man on top of her. Another man kissed her and put his hands on her…”
The veins stood out at Adrian’s temple, and the hate in his eyes looked ready to catch fire. “Shut up!”
Mandy was screaming too. “Nora, stop talking! I will never let this go!”
Nora had no intention of stopping. She smiled and asked him, “Will it bother you that another man has had her? Will you still date her, marry her, have children with her?”
Adrian looked at the smile on her, straight out of hell, and refused to give her the satisfaction. Sick as he felt, he answered through his teeth. “You set Mandy up. Her heart is still clean. None of it bothers me!”
Mandy was the one who had saved him that night. She was the light in his dark.
And now that light, the thing he lived on, had a mark on it, and it was the mark he hated most in the world!
Nora had ruined the person who saved him. She’d ruined the light in his life and knocked out the thing holding him up!
She’s the one I should hate.
Nora heard the answer and her whole face warmed into a smile. “Good. I hope the two of you marry soon and stay together a long, long time.”
Adrian looked at that smile, and for reasons he couldn’t name, it left him uneasy.
Nora looked up at him. “I’m glad it doesn’t bother you, Mr. Pierce. But Mandy set me up, so I ought to call the police. How many years do you think she’d get? Would you wait for her? Would you marry an ex- /convict?”
Mandy was hopping with rage. “Nora, don’t push it! I’m the one who got hurt tonight, not you!”
Nora’s look went cold. “You lit the stimulant in 3208. You nearly had me assaulted. That alone is enough for me to call the police and file criminal charges.”
“You…”
Adrian looked up at her. “What do you want?”

Nora only asked back, quietly, “How far will you go for her? She did save your life, after all.”
give you $10,000,000,” Adrian said.
Nora took out her phone. “Let’s call the police.”
Adrian watched her key in 9-1 with one digit to go.
He steeled himself and got it out through his teeth. “Make it $100,000,000. Tonight ends here!”
To the Westons, $10,000,000 was pocket change. She wouldn’t even look at it.
The number worked, and Mandy was still useful to her.
Nora put the phone down and smiled up at him. “You really do love Mandy, Mr. Pierce. Then I’ll let it go When you send the money, mark it as compensation, for emotional distress.
“Oh, and Mandy apologizes.”
Adrian looked down at her. “Apologize to Nora.”
“I’m sorry!” Mandy got it out like it was being pulled from her.
She was choking on it. Nora had put her through all of this, and in the end her own man was paying Nora off, and she had to apologize on top of it!
Constance saw it more or less settled, and her face eased.
Then her face closed again fast, and she turned to Nora and kept her voice low. “Why were you out at this hour with the Orion proposal, driving to the Wyndmere?”
Mandy looked up at Julian, hopeful. “The Trevor business was me, I set that up. But she took your Orion proposal out of the house, and nobody made her do that.
“She stole company secrets from you. Are you still going to believe her?”
Julian looked at Nora, and nothing in his face moved. “Yes. I believe her.”
Mandy froze.
Sienna had been holding it in all night and finally couldn’t. “I watched you go through Julian’s study looking for that Orion file with my own eyes. How can he just keep believing her?”
Nora’s eyes came up, cool on her. “And which blind eye did you see that with?”
Sienna lifted her chin, sure of herself. “I saw it with both of them.”
“Ohhh.” Nora drew it out and let out a soft laugh. “So both of your eyes are blind.”
Sienna gave a smug little sound, and then it caught up with her. The question had been which blind eye, and she’d answered both.
I just called myself blind.
