Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 123

Chapter 123 The Camera Was Off

Sina’s eyes lit up and she called across to Julian, delighted. “Julian, there’s a camera in your study! Pull the footage and everyone can watch Nora take that file out of there!”

Nora pressed her lips together and looked up at him, worried.

There was a camera in that study.

So he’d seen her take the Orion file, and that was why he’d come to the Wyndmere.

Does he think I threw his trust away?

Constance’s face went dark as she turned to Julian. “Pull the footage from your study and let’s see it.”

He liked his privacy, so the study camera was his to view and nobody else’s.

Nora turned her head to look at him.

Julian pressed his lips thin and said it low. “I don’t like being watched, so I turned that camera off a long time ago.”

Nora stared at him, thrown. Is it really off? She didn’t quite believe it.

Sienna was crushed and didn’t believe it either. “You really turned it off? In the study, of all places?”

Julian didn’t move a muscle. “Yes. It’s off.”

He looked up. “Grandma, it’s late. We stop here.”

Constance looked around the room, and her eyes came to rest on Olivia before she turned to Nora. “Stealing company secrets is a crime. People go to prison for it.

“Julian doesn’t want this dug into any further, and I believe there was nothing between you and Trevor. But it ends here. Do you understand?”

Nora knew what she meant. Constance didn’t want the Orion file looked into, and she didn’t want anyone asking why the story about the red mole had suddenly changed.

There were too many holes in it, and every one of them pointed at the one person who had been alone with Trevor and Mandy after the room change, and that was Olivia.

Constance was using the Orion file to protect her.

Nora smiled. “Then we’ll do it your way, Grandma.”

Constance let out a breath at the surrender. “That’s the end of it. Sienna, Olivia, you two head back. Nora, Mandy is yours to deal with.”

Julian took his grandmother’s arm, and they left with the others.

The police took Trevor away.

Mandy hung onto Adrian with her eyes full of tears. “Ace, don’t go. Stay with me, please. You have to believe me, nothing happened between us.”

He looked down at her, at the marks on her neck.

One look, and his skin crawled where she was holding him.

“Get some rest. I have work to get back to.”

Adrian pushed her hand off, turned, and left with long strides, and the second his back was to her he was scrubbing hard at that arm.

That was how much it disgusted him.

Mandy watched it happen and dropped onto the couch with nothing left in her, then looked up at Nora, furious. “Well? Are you satisfied now?

“Ace was about to propose. Now he can’t stand me!

“Nora, can you really not stand to see me happy?”

Nora got up, walked over, and stood in front of her, looking down. “Wasn’t this you digging your own grave?

“I did what you asked. I took the proposal for you. You could have taken it and gone, and instead you set up that room and brought Trevor in on me.

“If you don’t have the brains for it, stop doing so much damage.

“I told you before. Taking the credit for saving Adrian doesn’t mean you can sleep easy. Any day I want to, I can tell him the truth.”

Mandy glared at her. “You wouldn’t dare!”

Nora patted her cheek lightly. “Although that credit doesn’t seem worth much anymore.

“He watched Trevor on top of you. He saw another man’s marks on your neck. Every time he touches you now, that’s what he’ll see, and it’ll make him sick, and he’ll think you’re filthy.

“Is he still going to want you? Maybe if you were dead.”

Nora turned and walked out.

Mandy threw everything she could reach at the door. “Nora, you wait. I’m not finished with you!”

Nora had never met anyone that stupid.

All Mandy had had to do tonight was take the Orion file and go, and instead she brought in the scent and

Trevor.

If that was how she wanted to play it, she’d get it straight back.

Nora came out into the hallway and found Julian leaning against the wall, watching her without a word.

He had waited for her.
