guard looked at Victor and the other two, not convinced. “Then don’t stay too long, Mr. Sinclair. This is private property.”
Victor smiled awkwardly and agreed, put the window up, started the car, and drove off.
Maybe because of the stop, the guard followed on his cart and saw them all the way out to the estate gates himself.
They’d driven on a while before Mandy asked, curious, “What was that about, the thing you two were arguing over?”
The pair who had been hitting each other a minute ago answered at exactly the same time. “Nothing tha concerns you. Don’t ask.”
Mandy’s mouth went down, and she dropped it.
The guard watched the car go and thought it over. Victor was Mrs. Weston’s father, after all, so it was worth reporting, and he called the main house and passed on what he’d seen.
Hattie heard it and passed it along the moment she could..
Nora’s brows went up. “Victor and Yvette got into a fight?”
Hattie answered, “I don’t know for certain. The guard said Mr. Sinclair had a bruise at the corner of his mouth and Mrs. Sinclair had a lump on her forehead.”
Neither of them had a mark on them when they left.
Nora’s mouth curved. “So the marriage isn’t as solid as it looks. One small push and they’re at each other’s throats.”
She should push harder and then sit back and watch them tear each other apart. The question was where to
start.
Nora thought it through properly. Victor liked being in charge at home, and somewhere underneath it he would always have wanted a son.
But Yvette had a hard birth with Mandy and couldn’t have another, and even so he’d never gone after a son or kept a mistress to get one.
There had to be a reason. Something the two of them shared, an interest they both depended on, or a secret nobody else knew.
Her mother’s death would be exactly that kind of secret.
“Threaten what one of them wants, and they’ll be at each other inside a week, and the secret comes out with it.”
Nora ran the two of them through her head, and the method came to her quickly.
She worked the plan out, then frowned. “I can’t be the one who does it, and Hattie can’t either. I need

Outside of Julian and what the Weston money and name could reach, she had nobody of her own to use.
If she divorced him and the Pierces hadn’t gone under yet, she’d have almost nothing to work with.
She needed her own connections, her own people, and not somebody she had to borrow from Julian every
time.
Nora went back through everyone she’d known in her previous life, and one of them came to her.
At seven that evening, she drove out to Mount Elden and parked at the bottom.
It was the qualifying round of the 13th national racing championship.
She was barely through the entrance when a wall of sound came off the crowd. “Ryder! Ryder!”
Nora looked around the crowd for the one she’d come to find.
She scanned the lot and spotted a red Ferrari with a man in white racing gear standing beside it, too far off to make out his face.
He was about six feet tall with chestnut hair, and even blurred at that distance he looked good, with something loose and wild about him.
She looked at the red Ferrari, then at all that dyed hair next to it, and frowned. “That’s Ryder Kane?” she said under her breath.
She’d come for the heir to the Kane family of Ironhall, and his name was Ryder Kane.
In her previous life, something went wrong in tonight’s race. The car rolled and went down the mountain, and they got him back alive, but the surgery abroad cost him a leg and he lost his shot at the company.
Five years later, Ryder came back, and he moved fast and gave no quarter. Inside a single year the second branch of the Kanes was either dead or in prison.
A man with those connections and that kind of reach made a very good partner.
But the Ryder she remembered hadn’t been a kid with dyed chestnut hair, and there’d been nothing loose or wild about him. He’d been a man people were afraid to name.
The gap was wide enough that without the red Ferrari she wouldn’t have believed it was him.
Nora walked toward him, and the closer she got, the clearer his face became. It was the same face she remembered, only young and green and full of bite, instead of the cold thing it would be five years from
now.
She waited until he was on his own, then went after him.
“Ryder!”
He heard a clear, cool voice, turned, and found a very pretty woman he didn’t know at all. She looked like a fan to him, so he ignored it and kept walking.
