Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 137

Chapter 137 The Brakes Were Gone

Nether Ryder nor Nora thought for a second that they were going to lose!

“You’ve got some nerve. You lose and you’re my maid for three months!” He had to admit the nerve on her was starting to interest him.

Only a little, though. What he liked was knocking that kind of nerve out of a woman.

He put his foot flat, took the corner in a clean drift, and pulled away from the white Ferrari fast.

Nora’s brows went up. “Good.”

She put her own foot down, took the same corner the same way, and came after him.

There was no hurry in it. All she needed was to stay close to Ryder, so she held there right beside him.

It was more insulting that way, and it also kept him alive.

Ryder worked out what she was doing soon enough.

Fast or slow, she stayed right beside him as if it cost her nothing.

That easy, unbothered way of handling him got under his skin.

Jonah shook his head at it. “The nerve on her. Ryder, she’s baiting you.”

Ryder let out a cold breath. “My uncle sent another honey trap. This one actually has a brain, and some nerve with it. He knows I like racing, so he sent me a woman who can drive.

“If my uncle sent her, then she can learn something. Being pretty doesn’t get a man to hand her a race!”

He wasn’t falling for a honey trap.

Ryder turned the wheel as he said it and put his car into hers hard enough to rock both of them.

Nora watched the Ferrari cut in front of her and frowned. “The next turn is where he rolls it. The idiot is walking straight into it.”

She put her foot down, worked the wheel, and came up on him fast, holding to his right as much as she could.

The big turn was coming.

Ryder buried the accelerator and turned the wheel, and the frown came fast. “Something’s wrong with the steering.”

Jonah asked him, worried, “It can’t be. Dean checked it.”

Ryder tried it again. The steering was definitely wrong. It got stiffer the more he turned, and the car had started to get away from him.

Right then, the cars behind him started laying on their horns.

He checked the mirror. The ones back there were private drivers rather than teams, and besides Nora’s, two

Three of them were right on him.

A blue car went into the back of the Ferrari, and the two of them scraped along each other and threw sparks.

The car rocked, and Ryder held the wheel hard to keep it straight.

Then, the other two came up on him as well, pushing his car toward the edge of the road.

By now, he knew exactly what was happening. They were coming for him!

The big turn ahead had room for one car, and the drivers behind him kept on the horns and flashed their lights, telling him they were coming through whatever it took.

If he didn’t slow down, they’d put him through it anyway. His car would either go into the rock wall at the side or get squeezed to the edge, and one bad second there would send him down the mountain.

Wall or edge, either one killed him.

And he couldn’t slow down and let them by, because of what had been done to his car.

They wanted him dead!

There was one thing left, and he went for the brake. But the brakes were gone too.

Ryder slammed the wheel, furious. “Fuck. That woman was right. Somebody got to the car!”

The cars behind came up closer, pushing as though they had nothing to lose, forcing him toward the edge.

They really didn’t care. Every one of them looked ready to go down the mountain along with him!

They’d kill themselves to kill him!

Ryder was soaked through, and he still kept his head and watched the road ahead. There was a slope up there with grass under it.

“Jonah, this one’s on me. I’ll slow down in a second. Jump, and you live!”

Death was right there. Jonah had gone white and wet with sweat, and he still held onto his harness. “Not a chance. We go together. We might even be able to pull each other out.”

Rolling down the mountain didn’t have to kill them. Missing the window to get out and going up with the car would.

He wasn’t leaving Ryder alone in it.

The turn came up on them in a second, and the Ferrari was about to go over and down the mountain.

It was as bad as it got, and both their lives hung on the next second.

With the car gone from under him, all Ryder could do was hold his eyes open and wait for it.

But it didn’t go over. Something heavy hit it instead and shoved it back into the middle of the road.
