Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 146

Chapter 146 Eleven Cas

Nara frowned. Gas hadn’t had nearly enough of a lesson yet, and she took a step forward.

Sabrina caught her hand and looked at her, pleading. “Let it go, Ms. Sinclair. I’ll apologize to Mr. Merrick and try to smooth it over so we can finish the campaign.”

She couldn’t pay a penalty like that, and she didn’t want to be blacklisted. What she needed was to earn and to earn a great deal.

Nora frowned at her. “Sabrina…”

Sabrina cut her off with a bitter smile, everything in her face asking for it. “Ms. Sinclair, I don’t want this getting bigger. If I’m blacklisted, I won’t survive it. Please don’t wreck the company over me. I’m begging you.”

Nora let the rest of it go and turned to her. “Fine. We’ll wait until Adrian gets here. Go and change into something dry.”

Sabrina wanted to keep asking.

Bridget came over fast and took her arm. “Go and change. Trust Ms. Sinclair to handle this.”

While they waited for Adrian, Gus didn’t change either. He stood there dripping and talking, loud about how her company was going to pay the penalty and pay it until it went under.

She sat in a chair with her phone and let all of it go past her.

Sabrina came back in dry clothes and only got more frantic and more hopeless, certain she was the disaster here, the one who had ruined herself and then ruined Nora for standing up for her.

It left her frantic and sick to her stomach, hopeless enough to wonder whether all of it would sort itself out if she simply weren’t around.

She tried to talk her out of it several times.

Nora only looked up at her, steady. “Don’t panic. If you want to beg him, beg him after I’ve finished settling this and failed. All right?”

Sabrina could only nod slowly and sit there, unable to keep still.

Half an hour later, a staffer who’d been waiting at the entrance saw Adrian and ran down to the pool to tell Gus.

“Mr. Merrick, Mr. Pierce is here.”

Gus looked up and saw Adrian coming toward them with long strides, and he hurried over and let the whole complaint out at once.

“Mr. Pierce, you’re finally here. You have to do something about this.

“Nora Sinclair from Starfall came down here, and without asking a single question she beat me and then kicked me into the pool.

“I told her you were coming, and she still hasn’t shown one sign of knowing she was wrong. She’s holding to

She wants to terminate the contract, and she wants this whole company to apologize to her!

“Hitting me is one thing. Humiliating me is one thing. But she plainly has no regard for you at all, and that can’t be allowed!”

By then they were standing in front of Nora.

She looked up at Adrian, unimpressed, and clicked her tongue. “Gus Moron, you really do prove the old line. Kick a dog and the owner comes running.”

Gus corrected her, angry. “It’s Merrick! Gus Merrick!”

Adrian paid no attention to him. He’d seen Nora the second he walked in, and his eyes had been on her ever since.

Up close, she sat there easy and unbothered, and it was hard to take his eyes off the line of her throat and the turn of her profile.

He found himself staring, and it struck him that she made a place calmer simply by being in it, the same steadiness he’d felt in the rain that night.

Adrian asked her, “You want to terminate?”

Nora met that hot look of his and frowned hard. “I can’t tell whether Mr. Pierce has nothing better to do or whether Everstone has nobody left.

“A contract termination is a small matter, and here you are in person.”

There was nothing in it but mockery.

Adrian crossed over and sat down opposite her. “You hit one of my employees, and then you brought up termination. I don’t consider that a small matter.

“And besides…” He stopped there, and his eyes stayed on her face. “You came down here yourself for one small-time actress, so I could hardly send my general manager to talk to you. It would look like I didn’t respect you, Ms. Sinclair.”

A termination really was a small matter.

He didn’t need to be anywhere near it. The general manager, his assistant, or the company’s lawyers could all have handled it.

‘But the company behind Sabrina belonged to Nora.

So he’d told the people running it, for no reason he could name, to call him the moment she turned up.

“Your company respects people?” Nora laughed at him. “It’s a diamond ring commercial. You change the concept every other day, and then you put it in a pool on purpose so she goes in over and over.

“And your own people insult my client and smear her and damage her name. That’s your idea of respect?”

She didn’t bother hiding the contempt.
