know a lot about selling, Mr. Granger,” Nora said. “Why don’t you sit in a pet store window with a price tag on?

“And you, Ms. Nash. Sleeping with a married man behind everyone’s back was one thing. Now you sit there with your boy toy and gang up on his wife in public?”

“Who the hell just called me a-” Ian swung around swearing, and then he saw her coming down the stairs, and the rest of it died in his throat.

“Gorgeous. For a woman like you I’d happily be the dog.”

Nora really was that beautiful, better looking than any actress he had ever been in a room with.

Fiona’s face changed. Looking at Nora made her cheek ache, because both of those slaps were still fresh in her memory.

“Watch what you say, Ms. Sinclair. Between Damon and me, Wren is the other woman.”

Nora came down the last of the steps and laughed at her. “I always watch what I say. You’re the one talking shit, and you’re slinging it at Wren.”

“You-” Nobody had ever come at Fiona that crudely, and it left her with nothing to throw back.

Ian was still staring. “Even cursing somebody out she’s beautiful. Listen to that voice.”

Fiona slapped him across the back. He had been chasing her for weeks, and inside of a minute he had gone over to Nora.

It took Wren a second to register her, and then she pulled her close. “Nora, what are you doing here?”

Nora frowned at her. “I was having dinner upstairs and saw you down here. You’re supposed to be at home. Why are you delivering food?”

“I’ll explain later.” Wren turned back to Ian. “Go ahead and request the refund, Mr. Granger. I’ll cover the loss myself.”

“You did nothing wrong,” Nora said. “They’re doing this on purpose. Why would you pay for it?”

Wren gave her a small smile. “I don’t want the trouble.”

Mostly she didn’t want Nora dragged into any of it.

Ian took another look at Nora. Beautiful, yes, but she carried herself like somebody who owned the room, and people like that weren’t worth provoking.

He was ready to let it go, and then Fiona pinched his arm under the table. “Who is she?” he asked.

The look she turned on Nora wasn’t a friendly one. “Nora Sinclair. Wren’s cousin. They’re the same kind of people.”

Ian understood her perfectly. The same kind meant no money, no family name, and a habit of trading on

did something to that bag, didn’t you, Wren? That’s why you’re so eager to hand me a refund.

“Which means you open it, for everybody’s safety. Otherwise who knows what happens to the next order that goes through your hands?”

Then, he played generous. “Relax. Open it, and if everything checks out, I still pay for the order and throw in $100,000 for your trouble. How’s that?”

Wren knew exactly what this was. They were doing it for Fiona.

Rather than drag anyone else into it, she took a breath. “Fine. I’ll open it.”

Nora had no idea what was in the bag, but nothing about it felt right, and she caught Wren’s wrist. “Wren

Wren smiled at her. “It’s all right. I have nothing to hide, and I walk out of here with $100,000. That isn’t a bad trade.”

Wren moved the hand off her wrist, stepped up, tore the bag open, and took out a box.

“Condoms?” Nora said.

She kept a lid on her temper and looked between Ian and Fiona. “The two of you have no shame at all. You come out to dinner and have condoms delivered to the table. Are you planning to demonstrate for the room?”

It was obvious now. They had ordered the delivery and asked for Wren by name, and the whole point was to humiliate her.

Fiona flushed with anger, and then something occurred to her. She leaned in and said it low, next to lan’s ear. “She’s been chasing Julian Weston, and she’s on the wrong side of the Blithes.”

Ian looked up at Nora again, at all that cold polish, and decided that dragging somebody like her through the dirt would be worth the trouble.

On top of that, it would put him in good standing with Fiona and with the Blithes..

“If it upsets you that much, you can inspect the order for her.”

As far as lan knew, Nora was nobody, so there was no reason to hold back. “It’s simple. Blow every condom in that bag up like a balloon. Do that and I’ll take the order, and the two of you get $100,000 each.”

Ian came around the table and looked her over with contempt. “A couple of homewreckers like you, I’d say blowing is a skill you’ve already-”

Nora’s hand cracked across his face before he could finish.

“You fucking bitch, you hit me!”
