Chapter 176 Two Old Classmates
Nora let that go by. “How are things moving with Victor and Yvette?”
Ryder was grinning again. “Give me a kiss first and I’ll—”
The line went dead. She had hung up before he could finish.
Finished
Ryder gave up and texted her instead. “Everything’s on track. Yvette turned up something interesting. Il tell you in person. Digging into the trending thing now.”
Nora went straight from the elevator to the conference room.
Chloe had it all ready and put the trending post up on the big screen.
The video showed Nora’s foot forcing Gus down into the splits, and then the kick that sent him into the
water.
After that, the feed cut to a selfie video of him talking straight into the camera.
He had dropped a lot of weight since Seacliff. His color was bad, the circles under his eyes were deep, and he looked like a man who had come through a serious illness and not come out of it whole.
“My name is Gus Merrick, and I’m coming forward under my own name about Nora Sinclair, who owns Starfall Media. She assaulted me. She bullied me. And she used her sugar daddy to blackball me across the entire photography industry, so there’s no decent job for me anywhere in this city…”
Gus walked through that day at Seacliff, the hospital stay after it, and every interview that had turned him down the moment they learned he had crossed her.
Two weeks ago, he had been heavy and pink-faced. Now, he was thin and gray, and it played as pitiful, a working man getting crushed by somebody with money.
A rich boss doing the bullying and an ordinary employee taking it was a contrast that did exactly what it was built to do. Sympathy went to Gus and the hate went to Nora.
The comment section filled up underneath.
[Who is Nora Sinclair anyway? A woman with her own company. Built it all herself, I’m sure.)
[He said it himself, there’s a sugar daddy behind her. That’s how a photographer gets blackballed. I guess using your looks counts as building it yourself.]
[This is hilarious. She thinks she runs a studio? Blackballing people? She’s the one who should be blackballed.]
[Somebody dig up everything on her. Let’s see who the sugar daddy is. If those two can blackball a man in this city, we can blackball them everywhere else.]

[She’s vicious. He’s a photographer. How much could he possibly have done to her? Forcing a grown man
-the splits can tear something or snap a leg, and kicking him into a pool when he might not swim could have drowned him. That isn’t bullying, that’s attempted murder.]
[What’s the address for Starfall Media? I want to go see what this witch looks like, since she’s good enough at working men that one of them blackballed a guy for her.]
Then, people who actually knew her started showing up in the thread.
highschooldream: [I serve tables at Seacliff Lodge, and I went to middle school with Nora Sinclair. Because of her I dropped out halfway through ninth grade and went to work, and serving is all I’ve done since. Other people dream about college. All I wanted was to finish high school, and I never got the chance.]
peachy.tanya: [I went to grade school and middle school with her. She was cruel even then. She pushed other kids around, the school asked her to withdraw once, and she turned the whole class against me and froze me out. She has been a bad person her entire life. I left school in eighth grade because of what she did to me. She nearly killed me, and I tried to take my own life over it.]
The peachy.tanya account had posted a photo of the scar on her wrist as proof, another of a scar the length of a thumb on her neck, and a grade school class picture with the two of them circled in it.
Bridget and the rest of the room turned and looked at Nora.
Nothing moved in her face. “They were both in my class. The scar on her neck is mine. She left school because of me. Every word of it is true.”
Nobody in the room had an answer for that.
Sabrina looked at her. “Ms. Sinclair, they did something first, didn’t they?”
Chloe nodded along with her. “You’re not the kind of person who bullies anybody. If you did it, you had a
reason.”
Bridget was frowning, worried. “If those things happened, more classmates will line up to back them, and that’s bad for you and for the company. Nobody out there cares about the truth.”
A lie took one sentence. The truth took a marathon.
Whoever posted the long, emotional story first got there first and shaped what everybody else believed.
