Rebo to Dodge the Bad Marriage
Chapter 177 A Call to the Principal
Bdget and the rest of them went back and forth over how to handle the crisis.
Nora was in no hurry. She kept reading the comments on the screen.
Finned
In the time it took them to talk, the thread refreshed with another two or three thousand, which put it over 10,000.
The likes on peachy.tanya’s post kept climbing, and underneath it more old classmates were replying to swear that all of it was true.
Bridget and the others were close to catching fire.
Nora read through people calling her vicious and cursing her whole family without anything moving in her face. “No rush. Let it build. Attention is attention, and the ugly kind still puts eyes on this company and on
Sabrina.
“Her diamond campaign drops soon anyway. The timing works for us.”
Sabrina stared at her. “Doesn’t it hurt?”
Thousands of strangers were cursing at her, every one of them wrong about her, and nothing she said would land. Standing where Nora stood, she would have come apart.
“It’s a crowd of strangers piling on without knowing a thing,” Nora said. “None of them are my family or my friends. Why would that hurt?
“And if my family or my friends believed strangers over me, I’d be better off without them.
“Besides, they’re words from people I’ll never meet. However filthy they get now, the day the truth lands, all of it comes back on whoever set this up, ten times over.”
Bridget caught the word that mattered. “You already know how to end this?”
Nora nodded. “The day it happened, I went back to the front desk and asked for the pool footage. I have all of it, start to finish.”
Nora smiled. “Gus just shot himself in the foot, and whoever is standing behind him goes down with him.”
She had asked for that footage precisely because a man like him might pull something exactly like this, and she still hadn’t expected him to come back for more, twist the whole thing around, and point the blame at
her.
So there was no reason left to be polite.
One look at how calm she was, holding every card, and the tension went out of the room.
Nora handed out the next round of assignments and ended the meeting.
The comments under his video said the same few things over and over and weren’t worth reading.
Nora opened peachy.tanya’s page instead. Designer bags, a luxury car, a big house, and a post about her

as almost funny. Tanya had spent her childhood tormenting other kids, had never paid for any of it, and was living comfortably.
The highschooldream page was a mess by comparison. She had a baby at 18, and the posts ran to complaints about her husband’s mother, complaints about raising a kid alone, and one about catching him texting other women.
Tanya’s family had a small business, which explained the comfort. The highschooldream account belonged to her old sidekick, and it showed in where she had ended up.
Nora put the phone down and checked the time. “I sent you the security footage. Post it and push it. I want it trending as fast as you can get it there.”
Getting anything to trend took time, an hour or two at best.
Nora left the office and spent a while digging up a number for her old principal.
It took two calls before he picked up.
“Principal Barrett, this is Nora Sinclair.”
The name landed right away, and he sounded delighted. “Nora. How are you doing these days?”
“Well enough. I run a small media company,” she said. “And you?”
“Can’t complain…”
They made small talk for a minute before she got to it. “Do you remember Tanya Ingram and Jenna Underwood?”
Something in him shifted. “I remember. Every teacher who was there that year remembers all three of you.”
Nora laughed softly. “They’ve put their own version of it online. Could you get me the statements they wrote back then and the withdrawal paperwork?”
Barrett was sorry about it. “Those files stayed with the school, and I retired years ago. There’s nothing I can do for you. My apologies.”
“Then could you help me-”
Barrett cut her off. “I need to start dinner. My grandson is home from school.”
He hung up in a hurry, without so much as the usual line about keeping in touch, plainly afraid of being asked about any of it.
Nora frowned. Somebody had already gotten to him, and he wasn’t going to say a word about what actually happened that year.
Cordelia had lived through plenty, and the cold, level way Nora pressed her still raised the hair on the back of her neck. She felt seen straight through.
