Chapter 191 A Woman Answers His Phone
B
The hospital was private, Nora found, and from Warren Doyle down to the nurses there wasn’t a Blithe anywhere in it. The family didn’t own it and had no connection to it.
Elaine apologized. “I’m sorry. Imaging made a mistake and printed the wrong scan. Two emergency patients came through back to back today.”
Nora’s voice dropped. “This waits until my cousin wakes up. That was malpractice, and an apology doesn’t
close it.
“Pull your security footage and everything else you have. I intend to hold this hospital accountable.”
Nora had no interest in guessing at it now. She would wait until Wren woke up.
In the room, Nora was still going through the footage when a small sound came from the bed and Wren opened her eyes.
She put the phone down fast. “Don’t move around. You just came out of surgery. Rest.”
Wren went still and managed a weak smile. “I’m sorry. Dragging you all the way out here.”
Nora glared at her. “We’re family. Stop being polite at me.”
Wren put a hand on her stomach, dropped her eyes, and pressed her colorless lips into a line while her eyes filled.
Nora watched all of it. “It was ectopic, and you were bleeding. Be more careful next time.”
Wren smiled so she wouldn’t worry. “Some things can’t be kept.”
“Where’s Damon?” Nora asked.
Wren looked at the phone on the nightstand. “Busy, I’d imagine.”
Nora handed it to her. “Call him. No man’s wife goes into surgery while he’s nowhere to be found.”
Wren looked at it for a moment, took it, and unlocked it.
Three calls from three hours ago sat in the log, not one of them answered.
In the end, she dialed again.
“Damon…”
That was as far as she got. A soft female voice came back. “Hello. He’s in the shower. Can I tell him what this is about?”
Wren went white.
The voice kept going. “He doesn’t have your number saved. Leave your name and I’ll have him call you back

when he’s out.”
en hung up in a panic, and the phone dropped onto the bed.
“What did he say?” Nora said.
Wren smiled at her. “He’s traveling. He’ll be back tomorrow.”
“I heard it,” Nora said. “That was a woman on the other end. He’s cheating on you.”
“Nora.” Her face was bloodless and her eyes were red. “Please stop.”

Nora let out a breath. “If a man isn’t good to you, get a different one. There’s no prize for suffering.
སམ། Finished
“He didn’t even know you were pregnant, and while you were on a table he was with somebody else—”
The tears started coming down before she could finish.
Nora stopped right there. “I’m done. Don’t cry. You just had surgery. You can’t get worked up.”
In her last life, she had never heard a word about an ectopic pregnancy or a surgery.
This time around Wren had called her, probably because marrying a Weston had given her somebody to lean on.
Nora kept the part about the hysterectomy to herself for now.
Wren never had children in that other life, and this pregnancy might well have been the reason. Which meant none of it had to be aimed at Nora. It could have been aimed at Wren.
She leaned in. “Wren, I’m a Weston now. Divorce him or don’t, but whatever you need, you come to me. Don’t swallow anything for a man who doesn’t deserve it.”
Wren nodded through a smile she had to force. “All right.”
Nora stayed until she was asleep, then brought in a private nurse she trusted, walked her through every instruction, and left.
Outside, she considered going after Damon and decided against it. It could wait, and sending him to the hospital now would only put Wren through more.
Nora got back to the Weston house.
“Mrs. Weston.” The staff greeted her as she passed, and every one of them looked at her strangely.
Nora found Bess at the door. “Is Julian home?”
“Not yet, ma’am. You have a visitor.”
“Who?” Nora walked into the living room expecting Victor, or her grandmother.
“Nora. It’s been a long time.”
