Chapter 192 The Letter She Delivered
That somebody was Trevor Lane.
Then, a friend asked her to pass him a letter.
Nora thought nothing of it and handed it over between classes, in a stairwell full of people.
The letter turned out to be a love letter, written in her name.
Worse than that, somebody read it out over the school PA system, and it was explicit.

After that, Nora chasing Trevor Lane was all anybody talked about, and she was written up and disciplined in front of the entire school.
The story followed her all the way to graduation. Two years of chasing him, and she never got him.
“It’s you,” she said, with nothing in her face.
Trevor brightened. “I came to find you. Can we talk?”
Constance spoke up. “Take him out to the garden.”
Nora thought about it and went.
The Weston gardens were huge, full of expensive plants and hedges clipped into shapes, as nice as any estate people paid money to tour.
Trevor took a long look around before he turned back to her. “Seeing what you married into, I probably shouldn’t have come.”
Nora raised an eyebrow. “You say you shouldn’t be here, but you sure got here fast. What do you want? Money?”
Three years of silence and he turned up at her door. Something had brought him.
Trevor gave her a look. “My family isn’t the Westons, but we’re not so broke that I’d come to you for a loan.”
“Right,” Nora said. “The Lanes have a little money, and you like throwing it at people.”
After that letter went out over the PA, his mother had thrown $100,000 at her, told her to stay away from him, and tried to have her transferred out of the school.
That embarrassed him. “She was worried about my grades. She doesn’t run my life anymore.”
Nora laughed. “Say what you came to say. I’m busy, and I don’t have time to walk down memory lane with you.”
Trevor’s phone lit up, and he darkened the screen.
Then, he looked at her with everything he had. “The truth is I’ve always wanted you. I know they forced you into marrying him. Let me take you away. We’ll live abroad, get married, have children.”

ra turned the problem over. Principal Barrett won’t help with the school records. There has to be another way.
Nora tracked down the current principal, called him, and explained what she needed.
The principal said he understood. Then, he told her. “You graduated years ago. The written statements the withdrawal paperwork, the disciplinary notices, none of it is still on file. I’m sorry. I can’t help you.”
He hung up on that.
Losing the written statements she could believe.
The withdrawal paperwork and the disciplinary notices were another matter. What happened between her and Tanya Ingram had been loud enough that the school would have kept every page of it.
Nora pressed at her temple, dug up a few classmates she remembered as decent people, and called them one by one.
Half of them didn’t pick up. The rest heard her name, said they were busy, and hung up. The kinder ones apologized before saying they couldn’t help.
Nora stopped after a few. None of them had spoken up for her back then, and none of them would now.
She had barely hung up when Julian called.
That low voice came through the phone. “Finished for the day?”
Nora looked out at a city full of lit windows and realized how dark it had gotten. “Close enough.”
“Then come down,” he said. “We’ll go home together.”
Nora crossed to the window and looked down. Two or three people were standing outside the building holding cakes.
And there was his Maybach at the curb.
Something lifted in her voice. “What are you doing here?”
“Picking you up from work,” he said.
Nora laughed softly. “All right. Give me a minute.”
She hung up and came out of her office.
Chloe came up with a tablet in her arms. “Ms. Sinclair, the footage is posted, but almost nobody believes it, and a lot of media accounts are burying it and blocking what I put out.”
“Why are you still here?” Nora said. “I sent everyone home.”
Bridget had kids to get home to and the accountant was pregnant, and everybody else was talent, so she hadn’t asked anyone to stay late.
“I’m running the numbers here. The connection is better.” Chloe was close to tears. “All of our company
