Blake was still on Yvette’s side. He looked at Victor. “Uncle Victor, you can’t suspect Aunt Yvette. If anybody looks suspicious here, it’s you, out this late with your secretary.”

Kendra explained calmly, “If it weren’t for Mrs. Sinclair, our partners wouldn’t have frozen their deals with the company, and our stock wouldn’t have crashed. I had to work late. That’s the only reason I’m with Mr. Sinclair at this hour. And besides…”

She glanced at Victor. “There’s already someone I like, and it isn’t Mr. Sinclair.”

Victor didn’t like hearing that. He looked at Kendra, remembering how hot that night had been and how cold she’d been to him ever since, and he suddenly got anxious. “I’ve got things to handle at the company. Kendra and I are heading out.”

That was his excuse, and he left with her.

Nora had to admire Kendra’s hard-to-get act. She’d seen enough of the show anyway, and if she stuck around, Blake would never get his turn onstage. She arched a brow and turned to Julian. “Let’s go home.”

Blake had gotten a good look at Kendra. She was pretty and sharp, with a seductive way about her. He lowered his voice. “Aunt Yvette, you’d better keep an eye on Uncle Victor. He’s sleeping with Kendra. Watch out, or he’ll move all your money out from under you!”

Yvette frowned as she watched the car pull away. “Your uncle’s not that kind of man. Don’t make things up.”

Blake hurriedly pulled out his phone. “You’re my aunt. You’re practically my mom. Why would I lie to you? I’ve got pictures of them checking into a hotel room.

“I’ve also got pictures of them at a hospital, at the OB-GYN clinic. I bet that little secretary’s planning to get knocked up and take your place.”

He pulled up the photos and held the phone out to her. “That’s the only reason I was playing cards with those guys. I was trying to get these pictures.

“Aunt Yvette, you’re like a mom to me! I did it all for you!”

Yvette looked at the pictures. In one, Victor and Kendra stood at a hotel room door, locked in a hug, their bodies practically pressed together. In another, Kendra was at a hospital’s OB-GYN clinic holding a sheet of paper, and Victor was reaching out to snatch it.

She knew women. She’d been the other woman once herself. Either photo could have been explained away on its own, but to her, they both looked cozy and suggestive, with something faintly taunting about them. Kendra was trouble.

“Where did you get these?” she asked Blake.

Blake held up the phone, angling for credit. “I happened to spot them, so I had a buddy follow them and snap these.

“I went to a lot of trouble for you, and it cost me a ton of money. So, Aunt Yvette-”

Every other word out of his mouth was money. Yvette frowned and cut him off. “Stop gambling all the time.

u burn through any fortune that way. Go get a real job.”

Blake didn’t want a lecture. “Aunt Yvette, just give me the money already. They only gave me 40 minutes to get it. If I don’t come back with it, they’re taking me to Uncle Victor.”

Yvette was used to him begging for money like this, but it still made her angry. “I don’t have $50,000,000. The most I can come up with is $5,000,000, and that’s it.”

Blake wasn’t thrilled, but $5,000,000 would do for now. “Fine, $5,000,000 it is. But you’ll have to give me more over the next couple of days, Aunt Yvette.”

Before she could lecture him, he hugged her arm. “Aunt Yvette, you’re the best. I grew up without a mom. You’re the only mom I’ve got. You can’t turn your back on me.

“And keep an eye on Uncle Victor’s money, okay? Don’t let some mistress and her bastard kid steal it out from under you.

“Not that it matters if they do. I’ll take care of you when you’re old anyway…”

Blake kept calling her his real mom and laying the sweet talk on thick, and she ate it up. She maxed out every credit card she had and barely scraped together the $5,000,000 for him.

He was thrilled, and he reminded her one more time, “Aunt Yvette, quit worrying about saving Uncle Victor money. That little secretary just bought a $2,000,000 Porsche the day before yesterday. I bet he paid for it.

“Whatever you’re too careful to spend, he’s just gonna blow on someone else. If you don’t believe me, check- his accounts. Or the company’s.

“Okay, I’m heading out. I’ll call you in a couple of days.”

Blake had his money, and he’d said everything he came to say. He drove off without a care in the world.

Yvette was left standing there alone. She managed a bitter smile. “They all left. Not one of them is going home with me.”

Then, she remembered what Blake had said and frowned. “Is Victor really cheating on me? Does he really have a bastard out there?”

She and Victor had an understanding. Each of them had dirt on the other. So he wouldn’t dare fool around on me. Would he?

But when she thought about Kendra and that photo from the OB-GYN clinic, she couldn’t shake her suspicions. She was starting to believe Blake. Victor might be hiding money so he could divorce her and marry Kendra.

Yvette’s mood soured. She had to protect herself. She’d worked way too hard for everything she had to let I someone else waltz in and take it.

Adrian searched for over half an hour before he finally found Mandy by a lake in a park.
