Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 213

Chapter 213 Too Good to Be True

Preston felt like Nora was studying him a little too closely, a little too sharply. Without meaning to, he sat up straighter.

He kept it light and charming. “You’ve been staring at me for a while, Ms. Sinclair. Do I have something on my face? Did I rush out the door with breakfast on my chin?”

Nora didn’t find it charming. If anything, it felt a little slimy. “No. I was just thinking about something.”

Preston pressed on. “So once you’ve read the script, will you be interested in working together?”

Nora gave him a polite smile. “I haven’t had a chance to really dig into it yet. I’ll have Sabrina read it, and we’ll hold a meeting before I get back to you, Mr. Voss. We’re a small company, so we have to be careful.

Preston was a little surprised. He’d come all this way in person and handed her a script this good, and she still wasn’t saying yes. He had to hand it to her. She wasn’t easily swayed.

He stood up. “Of course. I won’t take up any more of your time. Since I’d be switching partners so suddenly, I owe Mr. Pierce an explanation. I’ll head upstairs to Mandy Media and talk to Mandy.”

Nora smiled and turned to Chloe. “Please see Mr. Voss out.”

Chloe nodded eagerly and gestured toward the door, then led Preston out of the reception room.

Preston smiled down at her. “Is Ms. Sinclair always this busy?”

Chloe thought he was so handsome that his smile made her a little dizzy. “She’s really busy. She only took over the company recently. She’s super driven, and she’s really good to us.”

His smile got even brighter. “I didn’t know employees ever said nice things about their boss. You make her sound like your idol. She must really be something.”

Then, he added, “Sounds like I’d better work harder to win her over. Is she free for lunch? After I see Mandy, I could talk business with her again.”

Chloe pressed the elevator button. “She has a ribbon cutting today, so she’s booked.”

The elevator doors slid open, and she waved him in.

Preston smiled. “I’m really looking forward to working with her. Put in a good word for me, would you? This is a rare opportunity for your company to grow.”

“Sure thing,” Chloe said brightly.

Preston gave her a little wave. “See you next time.”

Once the doors closed and it was just him and his assistant, Preston let his smile slip a little. “Nora’s awfully sure of herself. No idea where she gets it from. And she doesn’t budge easily.”

His assistant asked, “So are you still going to work with her?”

Preston nodded. “Sabrina’s got real potential. And I want to work with Nora, too.”

“Do you think she’ll agree?” his assistant asked.

Between Preston’s status as an award-winning leading man and the pull he had with his fans, no entertainment company could afford to say no.

Besides, Nora and Mandy were at each other’s throats. If Nora passed on this, she’d be handing a juicy prize straight to her enemy, and that would only hurt her.

As far as Preston was concerned, only an idiot would let an enemy walk off with an opportunity like this. H was pretty confident.

Back in her office, Nora looked at Chloe, who still had stars in her eyes, and raised an eyebrow. “Is Preston gone?”

Chloe nodded. “Yep, he’s gone.” Then, she looked confused. “Mr. Voss is so famous and so influential. This is a huge chance for the company and for Sabrina. Why didn’t you say yes?”

“I just don’t believe in free lunches,” Nora said with a soft laugh.

Chloe blinked innocently. “He probably just sees Sabrina’s potential. Besides, he has such a clean image. Hes even a celebrity ambassador for a charity. There can’t be a catch, right?”

Nora laughed at how starstruck she was. “Quit drooling, or you’ll get played without even realizing it.”

Chloe still couldn’t believe someone with an image as squeaky-clean as Preston’s would ever trick anyone. She was just worried. “But he’s gone up to Mandy Media now. If you say no, Mandy’s going to grab this. That can’t be good for you.”

She tried to talk Nora into it. “Maybe you should just go with him. We can’t let Mandy walk away with this!”

Nora laughed and tapped Chloe’s forehead. “That’s exactly why Preston made a point of saying he was heading upstairs. He’s trying to goad me into signing fast. Which is all the more reason to be careful.”

“Huh?” Chloe rubbed her forehead and stared at her. “He’s trying to goad you? Aren’t you overthinking this?”

It’s just a business deal. Who pulls out a whole bag of tricks for that? Chloe couldn’t wrap her head around it.

Nora picked up her purse. “Goading’s not his only trick. He might try a honey trap too. So stop fangirling, get back to work, and brush up on your computer skills. I’m heading out.”

Chloe giggled and walked out with her. “Don’t worry, Ms. Sinclair. Other tricks might work on me, but a honey trap? Nobody but you could pull that off.”

Nora couldn’t help smiling at how cheeky she was. She shook her head and waved goodbye.
