Choe blinked, completely sure of herself. “You guys should just go for it. Mr. Voss is a good guy, I’m sure of it. He’s a national charity ambassador!

“Besides, we’re such a small company. What could he possibly want from us?”

Worst case, she could ask her dad to look into Preston and maybe toss a few opportunities the company’s way as a favor to her.

The problem was, she’d basically run away from home to make it on her own. Her dad had washed his hands of her, and she was too embarrassed to ask.

Bridget shook her head at how innocent Chloe still was, half exasperated and half envious. Chloe had obviously been sheltered her whole life. Bridget, on the other hand, had been through hell.

After leaving the office, Nora went straight to the med spa. Back when Yvette owned it, it had been called the Pretty Pretty Salon. The new name was Renora, a blend of Wren’s name and Nora’s.

Wren hurried over the moment she saw her. “I thought you’d be stuck in another meeting and show up late. Come on, it’s almost time for the ribbon cutting. You can’t miss it.”

“Grandma, Wren…” Nora barely got the words out before Wren dragged her over to the ribbon.

After the ribbon cutting, they popped confetti cannons, and Renora was officially open for business. There was an opening-day promotion, and while not many people came in for facials, plenty showed up to grab the deals.

Once again, Nora was run off her feet.

Lunchtime came and went before Rosalind finally pulled her aside. “Take a break and eat something, or your blood sugar’s going to crash.”

Only then did Wren let Nora off the hook and sit down to eat with her while the rest of the staff held down the fort.

Nora looked over at Wren, who was wearing a sharp little blazer, and noticed her shoulder-length hair. “When did you cut your hair?”

“Yesterday,” Wren said. “With the opening today, I’m going to be busy from now on. I won’t have time to fuss. with it, so I chopped it off.”

What she really wanted was a fresh start. Damon liked women with long, straight hair, so she’d cut off the hair that used to hang down to her waist and dyed what was left a deep olive shade.

Nora looked her up and down. “I like it. You look so much healthier. You really do seem different. So, did you two get the papers?”

She meant the divorce papers. But she didn’t want to upset Wren, so she didn’t dare ask too bluntly.

“We did,” Wren said with a smile. “And you know what? Signing them felt like a celebration. I guess divorce

You finally got out of that misery. Happy divorce!” Nora said. “And a grand opening on top of it. That’s two things to celebrate today!”

Rosalind gave the back of her hand a light pat. “Eat. Less talking.” In Rosalind’s book, nobody went around wishing people a happy divorce.

Wren smiled and passed Rosalind a dish. “Grandma, Nora’s right. It really is good news.”

While the three of them were talking, a woman walked in. “Hi, can I get a facial now?”

Wren quickly set down her fork and went to greet her with a smile. “Of course, of course! What would you like?”

The customer handed over a voucher. “I picked up this coupon the day before yesterday. I’d like a cleansing, a face mask, and just a basic facial.”

Wren took the voucher and glanced at it, then pointed to the table next to Nora. “Have a seat. I’ll have someone get you checked in, and then I’ll take a look at your skin and figure out the best treatment.”

It was a $99 voucher good for three facials and three massages, plus a set of sample-size skincare products. It was a total steal.

Wren passed the voucher to another staff member, poured the customer a glass of water, and sat down across from her. The customer was Gwen Hughes, a first-timer who’d come in for the opening deal. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Hughes. I’m Wren Calloway, the skin specialist here at Renora. We always examine your skin before we start any treatment.

“Your skin looks pretty dull, and you’re breaking out a lot. There’s some red rash on your face too. Is that an allergy?”

Wren examined Gwen’s face carefully and pointed out each problem.

Nora glanced over at Gwen’s face, then noticed she was so nervous that she had her hands clenched together.

She frowned at Gwen’s hands, then looked up at Rosalind.

Rosalind was looking at Gwen’s hands too, and she was frowning as well.

She felt Nora watching her and looked up. Their eyes met, and Nora had a meaningful little smile on her face, like she was up to something.

Rosalind shot her an exasperated look. “What are you staring at me for? Am I the lunchtime entertainment?”

Nora just smiled at her. That smile gave Rosalind a bad feeling. She knew Nora way too well, and nothing good ever followed that look.

Sure enough, Nora tilted her head and looked at Gwen’s hands. “Grandma, why are her hands so ugly? All those red blotches. She’s not sick or something, is she?”

That did it. Gwen’s expression changed instantly. She yanked her hands back, hid them under the table, and
