Chapter 215 Not Just a Rash

or get it right. Talking nonsense like that is going to land you in real trouble!”

ora played the good girl. “But I had you, Grandma. I’ve only just started studying medicine, and I don’t know much. I honestly can’t tell rosacea from lupus. You’re different. You spotted it right away.”

She gazed at Rosalind with stars in her eyes. “You’re amazing, Grandma. You’re like a miracle healer.”

“Don’t do that again,” Rosalind said with a helpless sigh.

Nora didn’t promise anything. She just grinned. “But I’m interested in this stuff. You have to help me, Grandma.”

Wren came back from washing her hands. “Grandma, you know medicine?”

Nora smirked. “Why else would I have Grandma come hold down the fort for you?”

“If Grandma’s that good,” Wren said, laughing, “isn’t having her sit around a med spa a waste of her talent”

Nora glanced at Rosalind, who looked less than pleased. “If I hadn’t begged her, she’d have stayed at the hospital and taken it easy. She’d never have agreed to come out here and waste her talent.”

Then, she turned to Rosalind. “Grandma, you’ve got to teach Wren more about skin conditions. This is my shop. If Wren gets a diagnosis wrong and something bad happens, I won’t just lose money. My reputation will take a hit too.”

Rosalind really wanted to say no. But Nora pressed her hands together like she was praying and gave her a pitiful look. “Grandma, Wren’s business and mine are riding on you. You don’t want that cheating jerk Damon and his homewrecker laughing at Wren, do you? She’s already had her heart broken. You don’t want her business going under too, right?”

“Fine,” Rosalind said, rolling her eyes at Nora’s pitiful act. “Stop using Wren to guilt me.”

Nora pouted. “See? You do love Wren more. I’m your real granddaughter, and I’m so jealous I’m turning green.”

Wren didn’t know whether to laugh or groan. “You’re the one using me as bait, and now you’re jealous? Then I’m telling Grandma not to bother with-”

Nora cut her off fast. “Eat up! We’ve got work to do after this.”

The three of them laughed and joked their way through the rest of lunch.

Nora skipped the office that afternoon and stayed at Renora with Wren. Whenever a customer came in, the two of them handled it together. Wren assessed each customer’s skin, and Nora prescribed herbal remedies.

Upstairs, there was a lounge where Rosalind could rest. She was in charge of mixing up remedies for all kinds of skin problems.

The day was slow, but things picked up a little in the evening. By a little after eight, plenty of people had come in to ask questions, but very few had actually paid for anything.

Nora was sitting in a corner, handling company business on her phone, when she suddenly heard Gwen’s voice. “Is the older lady from lunch still here? Your boss’s grandmother? Or Dr. Calloway would be fine too.”

“Wren’s with a client right now, and my grandma’s resting,” Nora said, getting to her feet. “What can I do for you?”

Gwen spotted her and rushed over, clearly worked up. “I went and got tested this afternoon. Please thank your grandmother for me. I really do have lupus.”

Rosalind studied Gwen’s hands with a frown, then asked her, “Do you feel weak and worn out a lot? No matter how much you rest, you’re tired again in no time?”

There we go. Grandma’s on the case. Nora raised an eyebrow.

Gwen nodded in surprise, but then she quickly added, “I work a lot of night shifts, and I’m not exactly young anymore. That’s totally normal. Don’t try to pull one over on me.”

Rosalind pointed at her hands. “Your hands aren’t ugly, and it’s not an allergy. You have lupus.

“There’s redness on your palms and around your nails. Your fingertips aren’t getting enough blood, and they’ve broken out in a rash. And your fingers and wrists ache a lot, don’t they? Those are all early signs lupus.
