Chapter 216 An Empty-Handed Apology

“The doctor said it’s a good thing I came in early,” Gwen said. “A few more days, and it would’ve turned into late stage lupus, and that’s a lot harder to treat. So I came here to thank your grandmother.”

Nora noticed she was carrying a basket of fruit in one hand and her test results in the other.

She smiled. “My grandma’s resting. I’m just glad you got diagnosed. The sooner you get treated, the sooner you’ll get better. There’s really no need to thank us.”

But Gwen insisted on thanking Rosalind in person. No matter how many times Nora tried to wave her off, she wouldn’t budge, so Nora finally went upstairs and got Rosalind.

The moment Gwen saw Rosalind, she hurried over, overwhelmed. “You’re a miracle worker! You took one look at me and diagnosed me. No machines, not even a pulse check.

“I spent the whole afternoon running around the hospital getting test after test before they finally confirmed it…”

Rosalind frowned at being called a miracle worker. “Please don’t call me that. I just know a little about lupus Any dermatologist with some experience could’ve spotted it.”

“Well, to me, you’re a miracle worker,” Gwen insisted, “and I’m going to thank you whether you like it or

not.”

A basket of fruit wasn’t nearly enough thanks, so Gwen turned to Wren. “What kind of deals do you have on prepaid packages right now? I’ll put $100,000 on a card!”

This place looked like any other med spa, but it was full of hidden talent. She was definitely going to be a regular, and while the grand opening deals were this good, she might as well load up.

Wren hadn’t expected someone dressed so plainly to drop $100,000 just like that. Gwen had to be a wealthy woman who simply lived frugally.

Gwen signed up for a membership, put $100,000 on it, and said on her way out, “I’m going to tell all my friends about this place!”

Nora never could have guessed that one diagnosis made just by looking at someone’s hands would make Renora blow up overnight.

That night, Preston sat at his computer watching a movie. On screen, one beautiful girl after another was locked in an iron cage.

The vicious men holding them called the girls livestock and sold them off at different prices.

When it was over, Preston checked his phone. Nora still hadn’t called.

He frowned and asked his assistant, “Still nothing from Nora at Starfall Media?”

His assistant shook his head. “No. I checked. Ms. Sinclair left the office not long after we did today. She probably hasn’t read the script yet.”

Preston shut off the computer. “Nora sure knows how to keep her cool. A deal this good, and with her and Mandy at war, she’s still in no hurry to sign.”

His assistant said, “Ms. Sinclair’s a different breed. Mr. Pierce seems to look out for her, and she handled that online attack really well. When you’ve got that kind of status and backing, you’re bound to be a little proud.”

Preston looked at the shelf lined with his trophies and smiled. “There’s no rush. I need to earn/her trust first. If I can work with her, it’ll bring me more than I’ve ever had. Enough to retire on.”

He wanted out of the business. He just needed the right opportunity, and now, he was sure Nora was it.

Nora had just walked into the lobby of her office building when someone called her name. “Nora!”

She looked over and saw Tanya waving at her excitedly.

Nora gave her a single indifferent glance, then looked away and headed for the elevator like no one was there.

Tanya was thrown for a second. She hurried after her. “Nora, I’m saying hi to you. Why are you ignoring me?” She actually sounded hurt.

Nora found that hilarious. “Who are you?” she asked coolly. “Do I know you? Are we friends?”

Three ice-cold questions in a row left Tanya flustered, but she quickly put on a smile. “It’s me, Tanya Ingram! Don’t you recognize me? We were in middle school together.”.

Only then did Nora stop and look her over. It had been years, and honestly, she barely recognized Tanya.

Back in middle school, Tanya had a crooked nose, a weak chin, and blotchy skin. Now her nose was perfectly sculpted, her chin was refined, her lips were full, and her skin had a flawless glow.

She was a lot prettier than she’d been back then, but every bit of it had come from a surgeon and a stack of skin treatments.

“Tanya?” Nora looked her over again and said the name slowly, like she’d just remembered exactly what kind of trash Tanya was.

Tanya didn’t like her tone one bit. But given everything that had happened lately, she had no choice but to keep smiling and try to butter Nora up. “That’s me! I knew you’d remember me-”

Nora cut her off with a sneer. “The same Tanya who went online and said I got you shunned, made you drop out, and drove you to try to kill yourself?” She said it lightly, but every word dripped with sarcasm.
