Chapter 217 Another Invitation

“you’re really sorry, why won’t you say who put you up to posting all that school stuff online?” Nora went on. Is this how you apologize to people?”
The questions kept coming, and Tanya got even more flustered and guilty. “I… I already deleted it, didn’t I?
“And as for our classmates and the principal, I haven’t talked to them in years. I don’t know anything about them.”
Nora shot her a cold look. “Then come back and apologize when you actually mean it.”
When Nora started to leave, Tanya hurried to block her way. “Nora, I already apologized. What more do you want from me?
“What happened back then wasn’t all my fault. I dropped out of school early. I already paid for it. Aren’t I even allowed to hate you?
“I’m pregnant, and I waited for you all morning just to give you a sincere apology. All you have to do is say it’s okay. It’s not going to cost you anything, is it?”
Nora glanced at Tanya’s barely-there bump, then looked up at her coldly. “If you weren’t pregnant, and I weren’t worried you’d lose the baby from the stress, do you really think I’d have let you get away with this much?
“Tanya, I’m giving you one chance. Do one decent thing for your baby’s sake. Tell the truth and apologize like you mean it. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next!”
With that, Nora turned and walked away.
Tanya watched her go, gritting her teeth and cursing under her breath. “She’s still as big a pain in the ass as she ever was! So she married a rich guy. Big deal!”
But it was a big deal, and she knew it. Nora’s husband had more money and more power than Tanya’s did. Otherwise, Nora would be the one apologizing right now, not her.
Tanya stamped her foot in frustration, and a sharp pain shot through her stomach. She clutched her belly. “Ow! It hurts!”
Gideon had just walked in. When he saw her doubled over, white as a sheet and crying out, he rushed over. “Ma’am, are you all right?”
“My stomach hurts,” Tanya gasped, holding her belly. “It’s cramping really bad.”
Gideon steadied her. “I’m a doctor. Want me to take a look?”
“Yes, please, check me!” Tanya said quickly. “I’m a little over two months along. Nothing can happen to this baby.”
Her in-laws were only giving her a second chance because she was pregnant. As long as Nora forgave her, she could keep living the rich-wife life. If she lost this baby, she’d lose everything.
Gideon checked her pulse and looked her over. “Just some mild cramping from all the stress. It’s nothing

nya wasn’t convinced. “Are you sure it’s nothing? Shouldn’t I go to the hospital? Which hospital do you even work at? If something happens to my baby after you told me I was fine, you’re going to be held responsible!”
“If you’re worried, go to the nearest hospital,” Gideon said with a frown. “Tell them Gideon Vance sent you, and they’ll get you checked out.”.
Tanya was still having sharp twinges, and she didn’t really trust him, so she hurried off to the hospital.
Gideon went upstairs to find Nora.
Nora raised an eyebrow at him. “My tiny little company sure is getting a lot of visitors lately.
“Dr. Vance, are you here to try to talk me into being Cordelia’s student again?”
Gideon sat down across from her and frowned. “Do you have to be so prickly with me?”
Nora let out a soft laugh. “We’re not exactly close, Dr. Vance, and we’ve got a bit of a history. If I’m not prickly, what should I be? Would you rather I came at you with a knife?”
“I don’t think we have any history. What happened at the wedding…” Gideon tried to explain, but he didn’t sound very sure of himself. “That was an accident.”
Nora gave him a mocking look. “Was it?”
Gideon went quiet. Over the past couple of days, he’d thought hard about what Nora had said. He had to admit that when enough coincidences piled up, they stopped being coincidences.
And he knew Olivia was in love with Julian. She’d never shown it all these years because there had never been another woman in Julian’s life. She’d been the closest woman to him, so she’d never needed to rush.
But ever since Julian married Nora, Olivia had gotten anxious. Her jealousy had started to show, and she couldn’t help butting heads with Nora.
Still, Gideon said, “My mentor has her reasons for the things she does. I believe in her, and in Olivia. They’ve never done anything to you that crossed the line.”,
“Ha!” Nora laughed out loud. “Listen to yourself. You don’t even sound like you believe it. And you expect me to trust them?”
Being laughed at like that embarrassed Gideon, and he looked sour.
Once Nora had laughed her fill, she pointed at the door. “If you’re here to sell me on her, get out. I don’t need idiots in my office.”
She didn’t get Gideon at all. Cordelia had made him take the fall for that invitation mess last time, and he still worshiped her. He had to be seriously brainwashed.
