Chapter 218 The Golden Invitation

“Last time, the invitation mix-up was the security guard’s fault, and he’s been fired,” Gideon said. “To make sure it doesn’t happen again, I brought your invitation myself. It’s a VIP invitation.”
Nora looked it over. It was trimmed with engraved gold, real gold at that. It looked seriously luxurious.
Gideon added, “My mentor’s bringing the mutant orchids to this conference,”
That got Nora’s attention. She took the invitation. “Fine. I’ll be there on time tomorrow.”
Gideon said, “If you’d just let go of your prejudice and give my mentor and Olivia a chance, you’d see they’re really good people.”
Nora smiled. “And how exactly do you want me to get along with Olivia, Dr. Vance?
“Me as the wife and her as the mistress? We share a husband and play nice?”
Gideon’s expression darkened, and he pushed up his glasses. “Talking to you is a waste of breath. I’m only telling you this for your own good.
“Honestly, I don’t think Julian deserves Olivia’s love. And if my mentor didn’t see real talent in you, I’d say someone like you doesn’t deserve to be her student!
“If you don’t want to get along with them, fine. But after tomorrow’s conference, you’ll see them differently. And when you do, I hope you’ll apologize to them!”
Nora laughed. “Uh-oh. Dr. Vance is so embarrassed he’s lashing out. Are you going to bite me now?”
Gideon looked at her dazzling smile. It didn’t match a single infuriating word coming out of her mouth. “I’m not wasting my energy on a woman like you. See you tomorrow.” He huffed and walked out of the office.
Nora picked up the gleaming gold invitation and opened it. It was handwritten, probably by Cordelia herself.
She narrowed her eyes. “What’s Cordelia up to now?”
She looked up news about Cordelia’s conference. It turned out to be the 15th one. The conference was held every two years and drew huge numbers of doctors and people from the medical field.
This year’s big draw was that Cordelia would be bringing the last three mutant orchids in the world. The flowers held a rare compound that could be extracted for medicine, and the drugs for a lot of terminal illnesses depended on it.
After reading for a while, Nora called Victor.
It took him a while to pick up. “Nora, what is it?”
Nora got straight to the point. “Where’s the azurewort?”
Victor paused. “I’ve been busy the past few days, and it slipped my mind. I’ll have someone bring it over to the Weston estate tonight.”

Then, he hung up. Nora wasn’t worried about him going back on his word. He knew perfectly well that she’d
te war over Rosalind.
After work, Nora went downstairs. “Ms. Sinclair!” the building’s security guard called out to her.
Nora gave him a friendly smile. “Hi, Mr. Dunn.”
The guard said, “That woman who came looking for you today didn’t seem okay after you went upstairs. She was crying about her stomach hurting. Then the man who came to see you after her talked with her for a bit.”
Nora paused. “What did they talk about?”
The guard shook his head. “I was too far away to hear most of it. But I caught the woman saying something about not trusting him, and that if anything happened to her baby, she’d come after him.”
He just thought it was strange. The two of them had come to see Nora one after the other, and then they’d ended up talking to each other.
He warned her, “That woman kept going on about something happening to her baby, and it was right after you left. I’m worried she’ll try to drag you into it. You should be careful.”
Nora smiled. “I will. Thanks, Mr. Dunn.”
In her car, Nora mulled over what the guard had said. Then, she called the new principal at her old school.
After some polite small talk, she got right to the point. “I’d like to donate $10,000,000 to the school to renovate the classroom buildings, the dorms, and the records room. What do you think?”
“You want to donate $10,000,000?” the principal asked, surprised.
“That’s right,” Nora said.
The principal was quiet for a moment, then agreed. “All right. When would you like the renovations to
start?”
Nora smiled. “I’ll let you know. You’re a good principal. You really care about your students.”
N
The principal flushed at the compliment and felt a little guilty.
Nora didn’t blame him. Tanya had donated $1,000,000 to the school to make sure the principal never brought out the old school-wide disciplinary notice, the withdrawal paperwork, or anything else from back then. And the principal hadn’t kept a cent of it. Every bit had gone to the school.
Anyth
Anything that came down to money wasn’t a real problem. With a $10,000,000 donation, Nora could get the principal to bring out the withdrawal paperwork and the disciplinary notice, and that would be more than enough to put Tanya in her place.
As for her old principal, she had a way to get him to change his story and back her up too.
That night, the azurewort Victor had promised arrived.
